"You will not need a SSN in order to get married. The married license nor the married certificate require a SSN. However, I recommend applying for the SSN anytime after 10 days after the beneficiary arrives in the US.

Hope this helps...

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling"

Yes Sheriff, it does!

It will vary from state to state. You need to do like I did and call the county clerk where you live. Just explain the situation and they will tell you what is allowed.

Luz and I decided to marry within a few days of her arrival. Just a quick civil cerimony at the court house. Then we can apply for her SSN in her married name and apply for the AOS right away. A few months later, after we have a chance to settle in we will have a big wedding at my fathers farm. (outdoor).

I will do just that Gary! Good thinking, only applying for the SSN once and in her married name. Hopefully Washington state works like that.

We plan on a small ceremony, hopefully at a local, very old Catholic Church. The larger full wedding will take place down the road, in PI with her friends and family. :D

Good luck to Luz! And to everyone interviewing February 13th, hopefully my fiancee can save everyone a little good luck from February 12th!

GaryC and Ready4one...

Don't be surprised if your wives are still required to initially apply for the SSN under their maiden names first before they are issued a SS card with their married names. That has happened to a few folks here on VJ. I am not completely sure about the rational behind that (although I do have some speculations as to why but I will save them because they are just speculations). You might want to call or stop by the SSA to inquire before going there and potentially frustrating yourselves. Just my opinion.

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

Did anyone ever hear of them asking for the petitioner's BC at interview time? I never heard anyone mention them asking for that. That's about the only thing we didn't bring with me to Manila is my original BC, and we have a lot of stuff here.

Didn't read anything about it though, but a friend told me i needed it, since Eric has a copy of his BC, he sent it together with the other docs.

But dont be really bothered coz its not mentioned in the Packet4.

I hope others here can clarify that too, if its really important.

Goodluck!

My babys visa is now with delbros. She had talked to an agency that hold her a flight without a visa. I end up buying a ticket on this end because one site jumped up by $1k today.

What I want to share is how much one travel agent went out of her way. I regret not ending up using her due to my impatience. She (darlene) at the travel agency had good follow up, good pricing, and even did a preliminary confirm of one airline since another was no longer available while she could follow up on the first to try to get a better deal. She wanted to make sure we got the requested date for similar pricing. Unfortunately, the price jump I saw on one when looking myself on one site put me in the emergency mode and I bought one a ticket on orbitz I found that was somewhat reasonable. Overall I spent more than I needed and feel bad for the agency that I know was truly helpful......

The short point to this story is, if anyone would like a good travel agent in manila, the information is below. The lady's name is Darlene and I have no doubt that the service will be great. They also have an YM that can help with the communication.

ACTS TRAVEL & TOURS, INC.

Rm. 229 Tia Maria Sarao Bldg., C.V. Starr Ave., Philamlife Village

Las Piñas City, Philippines

Tel. No. (632) 875-1977 Telefax (632) 872-4621

This is also my travel agent, and has been for sixteen years. They are simply the best. I am not one who quibbles about $5 difference in rate, but I always want a good deal, good service and someone I can trust to be responsible and knowledgeable. They are the best.
