now my interview is next week and im getting nervous...worried about a few things:

my fiance is self-employed, he gave me his 3yrs ITR and 3 yrs W-2 plus letter with the letterhead and his position in his own office. He sent his bank statements and a letter also, but in his last 12months statement (up to Dec.), his remaining bal is not that much. He has spent his savings for some important things. Would this affect my interview?

The remaining balance is not a big issue to the embassy. The statement need only to show that money is coming in and out. To make you feel better, my fiancee's bank letter only recorded a balance of $21.81. I thought earlier it was over $218 but I'm looking at the statement now and it shows $21.81 hahaha! Here's how the bank presented the statement:

Below is a statement of account from xx/xx/2004 to xx/xx/2005. This account was opened xx/xx/1985

Present balance of Savings Account: $21.81

Present balance of Interest Checking account $xxx.xx

Total deposits to Savings Account for the 12 month period: $156.23

So don't worry, Fel. I'm sure Frank's account balance is more than my fiance's. Anybody can beat $21.81?

If I buy the ticket, there is a US Tax of about $107 USD per ticket, whereas if Jinky were to purchase the ticket, she would only have to pay the Philippine taxes (1650 and 200 pesos) - am I understanding this correctly?

The US taxes are always included in the total cost of the airfare. There is no way the airline will not charge it as it is paid to the US govt. If you ask for a breakdown of the airfare, I'm sure the taxes would show up.

In our case, I purchased the plane ticket in advance thru PAL and Jhen picked it up from the Ticketing Office (where she paid the travel tax). However, she could only pick up the ticket after receipt of the visa. I am not aware of how the travel agencies handle ticket purchases in the Phil.

For tickets issued by travel agencies, sometimes they would ask for my passport details by telephone. Other times, they would ask me to fax a photocopy of my passport (but not the visa page, I had a tourist visa). The passport info is required if travelling to the US as part of US security measures.

I would think that the travel agent would only require to show visa if passenger is availing the "first-time immigrant fare" and that only PAL would require this since they are the only one offering the immigrant fare.

The PAL ticket office in Davao told Yazi to expect to pay 750p; 550p airport fee and the new security fee 200p.

I did find a way to pay the travel tax here. I know you're not suppose to be able to and everything I read said you couldn't. I booked thru LBC Travel which said they could collect the tax. I was skeptical, but the PAL ticket office in Davao said that it had been paid. all Yazi had to do is get the reduced tax certificate for her daughter which cost 200p.

Roy, LBC is a Philippine corporation (with a US branch office?) so it is able to collect the travel tax for the Phil. govt.

Thanks. yes there are several branch offices here in California. The only disadvantage with LBC Travel would be if you are not near a branch office. you can book by phone, but have to pay for the ticket at a branch office.

I'be been checking out both Cebu Pacific fares and PAL and Cebu Pacific has a special in certain areas. Also Cebu Pacific fares just seem generally cheaper.

Lorna will go for her physical Feb 19,20 or 21 so they may see each other at St Lukes :-)

So you think its fairly easy to Walk-in for a room with out a reservation?

Just talked to the Visa Unit. It was finally approved today and is in the 'issuance' department for the Visa to be printed. Said it may take a couple days, but whos complaining. These past few days have been torture......

Finally........APPROVED. My baby can come home soon!!! Yeah.

Just talked to the Visa Unit. It was finally approved today and is in the 'issuance' department for the Visa to be printed. Said it may take a couple days, but whos complaining. These past few days have been torture......

Finally........APPROVED. My baby can come home soon!!! Yeah.

Ok a couple of questions saw catching up this evening after work. Hotels.. look for hotels in the Ermita or Malate area as both are walkign distance to the Embassy. Try Precision Reservations for the hotel. We got Exec plaze for 438 a night including the VAT.

One-way flights can be booked for a fraction of the cost with thiese websites. Just remember if you book it online for your fiancee or finace, you will still have to pay the 1650 travel tax because the ticket was purchased outside the PI. try these TravelPH / Kayak.com or BestTravelStore I found the best prices at kayak and they eventually took me to PAL.

The departure tax was still 550 peso on 15 Jan when I left and the 200 peso security fee stil hd not been implemented. Good luck, Ken & Maria

Hi everyone,

I just finished talking to Jasmin after interview.....she said the consul was nice and there was no problem with our papers, except that she wanted to see some pictures of my step daughter when she was a baby coz of her late registration BC. She told Jasmin to submit those or mail them...then told her to pay the delbros. Jasmin asked if it was approved or AR and the consul just smiled an had her go pay the delbros.

I had Jasmin go back to the embassy because they gave her the original docs back but they also gave her the passports back!!! How can they put the visas in there if they dont have the passports!!!! Anyone else on AR experience this?

PW i told Jasmin to call you to ask your advice....she did not recieve a 221.....i'm beside myself...coz it appears that the interview went well....but the whole passport thing has me concerned...any thoughts?

Jazzy,

When I saw Jasmin last Friday and she told me about the late birth registration, I asked her if she brought pictures of her and Gracy when she was a baby but she said no. I also asked if she can have some relatives send her some photos by courier but I cannot remember now what she said about that. Gee, I should have followed through.

Anyway, good that you sent her back to the embassy. Maybe the consul made a mistake in returning the passports.

I'm praying for you guys.

YAY! Passed d interview.........................Philip said that he had old lady American interviewer, like only 2 questions, request to look at pics and emails wanted to see tax return and affadavit of support, nothing else..... Pilipina pre-screener, very strict apparently..........otherwise he said very easy no pressure! thanks again everyone for ur support, I will be going over there March to spend one month of summer there and then coming back to NY ! i am gonna pass out! :dance::dance: LOL! can't believe it is true!
