Manila Embassy Interview

I got that information from Fox News, in Kansas City. I have not read the newspapers and I do not know how long ago the executive order was issued. You can still try to make that call, but I would not make any plans on getting them to answer the phones. Our Tuesday will be their Wednesday, so perhaps then???

I mainly just wanted to warn people about the Federal offices closures in the US, but I do not know if it will actually affect the Embassy, but I think it would. I had planned on calling them too, but I will just put it off for another day or so. The federal workers 3 day weekend just became a 4 day weekend.

Thankyou star for the link.

Here is a story I pulled off Bloomberg this morning about communications to asia. Nothing specific about Phils, but easy to see it will take time for full restore.

Asian phone companies including Chunghwa Telecom and KDDI Corp., Japan's second-biggest carrier, forecast repairs may take weeks after a 7.1-magnitude quake and aftershocks hit southern Taiwan on Dec. 26, damaging a group of cables linking Asia to the rest of the world. Hong Kong's regulator said the first part of work on one cable is estimated to be completed by Jan. 9.

``Repair is expected to be completed progressively by the end of January 2007'' for other damaged cables, Hong Kong's Office of the Telecommunications Authority said in a statement today. Three more ships are on their way to the cables, joining two that arrived on Dec. 28, the regulator said.

Regular Access

Operators are rerouting traffic to other lines and satellites to resume services.

Voice and Internet access is ``back to normal,'' Peter Heng, a spokesman at Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., said today. Singapore Telecom, Southeast Asia's largest operator, is diverting Internet traffic to the U.S. through Europe and Australia as well as using satellite and landlines.

China Network Communications Group Corp., parent of the nation's second-biggest carrier, and Hong Kong's PCCW Ltd. reported ``normal'' voice services yesterday.

PCCW has recorded a ``substantial improvement'' in Internet connections, spokesman Hans Leung said. The company, Hong Kong's biggest telephone company, said Dec. 27 that it lost half its Internet capacity due to the broken cables.

Most Internet users will continue to experience slow access, the Hong Kong regulator said in the statement.

More than 80 percent of calls made through Chunghwa Telecom to the U.S., Canada, Japan, Europe and China can be connected now, rising from less than 30 percent after the quakes, Chunghwa's Lin said. The rate for Hong Kong and Singapore improved to between 50 percent and 60 percent, from less than 10 percent, he said.

Across the Ocean Floor

Chunghwa Telecom estimated repairs to take two to three weeks. The ships will drag a large grappling hook across the ocean floor to find the broken cable before pulling it to the surface for inspection, according to the company. Cables will be repaired by cutting out damaged sections and rejoining with new pieces, with the ships equipped to conduct all necessary work.

Early assessment showed the damage to the cables was ``substantial,'' the Hong Kong regulator said yesterday.

After the quake, the biggest in the area in 100 years, traffic from the China-U.S. cable and the south section of the Sea-Me-We3 line that connects Asia to Europe was automatically rerouted to other cables.

Those backup cables, the ACPN and ACPN2 intra-Asia lines, later broke because of aftershocks, worsening network congestion, Chunghwa Telecom said.

Other cables affected include C2C Group Ltd.'s C2C cable, which connects Korea through to Singapore, Reliance Communication Ltd.'s Flag North Asia Loop connecting Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China, as well as Reach Ltd.'s North Asian Loop connecting Japan through to Hong Kong, according to operators.

Contingency Plans

``Our corporate-leased lines have recovered to a nearly full extent,'' Kim Cheol Kee, a spokesman at KT Corp., South Korea's biggest phone and Internet company, said today. ``Phone calls and Internet connections are forecast to rise in time for the New Year, but we have prepared contingency plans in case anything happens.''

Hong Kong's regulator said mobile-phone users should expect a longer delay for text messages to and from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea as the new year approaches, because of increased traffic.

Thanks for the fax number. Is this the main fax number at the USE? Is there another fax number that goes directly into the K1 department for interview requests? I just want to be sure to fax the letter to the right number with as little chance as possible for it getting "lost in the shuffle".

If you look at the submarine cable maps you can see that most of the cables from the Phils go north to other countries in Asia, and I suspect that most of them do in fact go to Taiwan.

Rob that is the number they gave me for K1 communications when I called the 888 number. Address your fax to the attention of the Immigrant VISA Branch, US Embassy. Include your case number, her full name and your full name, and sign and date the request letter. I sent them a fax to correct a name spelling error and it worked fine.

all i know is that whenever he text, at least 12 hrs delayed and whenever i call, it wont push thru. except when he's the one who's trying to call me. my internet connection wont work the sameway as before especially im using dial-up but its not something we could control of. so i hope everything will be back to normal espceially in taiwan...

GREAT NEWS!

I know you have been stressed for not getting this and I also have been edgy watching how little movement there is in the CR1 timeline.

There's about 4 of us behind you with completed petitions. So seeing some movement on your case is exciting. Maybe we aren't to far behind.

I would contact the embassy and ask them to send packet 4 to St. Luke's and check with them in a week or so to make sure that they received it. Then I would have Jasmin go right away to the physical in case there is any problems. S you might have time to correct those problem before the interview.

Again great news!! I'm very happy for the both of you!!

DUE TO THE DEATH OF

(FORMER) PRESIDENT

JEROLD FORD,

THE CURRENT PRESIDENT, BUSH,

ORDERED THAT

ALL

FEDERAL OFFICES TO BE CLOSED

THIS COMING TUESDAY.

(EVEN THE POST OFFICE)

YOU SHOULD ADVISE PERSONS GOING TO THE EMBASSY THAT THEY MAY BE CLOSED. IF THEY ARE, MAKE SURE THAT THEY GO ON WEDNESDAY, THE NEXT DAY. (SINCE MONDAY IS THE NEW YEARS HOLIDAY). THE STOCK MARKET WILL ALSO BE CLOSED FOR THE STATE FUNERAL.

Any where you know where we can check if that is true or not? I was planning too call the Embassy that day. (still Monday here in the US)

Thanks

US Embassy Manila will be closed Jan 2nd. http://usembassy.state.gov/manila/wwwhs051.html
