hey fellow philippine vj'ers, just thot i'd pass this along...if ur having trouble contacting your loved one/family/frenz n d philippines, they are having sum kind of nationwide telecommunications problem right now, including no internet service. from reading n another post it appears 2 b affecting other areas n asia, maybe due 2 the earthquake, or maybe some computer virus that spread thru all the telecom providers. not sure the cause, but there is a problem of some sort.

Yes, it's bad. Apparently some phone cables were cut when the earthquake hit off the coast of Taiwan. The news said this could take 2 or 3 weeks to fix.

my wife just called me, she said d latest info there is it wil take abt 5 days 2 repair. lets hope 4 a speedy fix

I did notice an unusual number of disconnects last night when I was online with Mira. She has Bayantel DSL. The phone line was bad too. But at least land line, mobile and internet were working even if sparodic in Butuan City region.

According to the news reports, about half the communications capacity has been lost and it could take 2 to 3 weeks to fix it.

oakwell, gobdogman, & robhankins - I totally forgot about the misprint in the packet 4 information concerning the validation of payment, but I had mentioned it to PW a few months ago. There was another problem that I had with the packet 4 information but I'll have to review it again to see if it pops out to me...

I didn't know you had access to USE letterhead. Could you kindly whip out a new letter of appointment for us? Lilia is at the USE now without her medical. I am just waiting to see how long it takes them to give her the boot. Have you ever heard someone pray for AR? I am. It has happened before that when the packet was never received and the applicant didn't have time for the medical, the interview was still performed and approval was pending the medical. Here's hoping that is what happens.

Uling, it's in your link #2 packet 4 information, item 1. Thanks for the update.

(2). The Manila Embassy (USE) Packet 4, the phone number, a visa interview testimony, along with a sample Appointment Letter are within my signature block. NOTE: Packet 4 can be acquired from the Manila Embassy website which gives directions on what documents are required by the beneficiary for the visa interview. Starting 01 November 2006, ALL nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) to complete the DS-156 (Nonimmigrant Visa Application). To date, only the DS-156 has the barcode (on the first and last page) and is the ONLY form available online at http://evisaforms.state.gov. You may complete the DS-156K (Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application) and the DS-157 (Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application) (this is the form the bank validates when you pay the visa application fee) via the computer, type-writer, or handwritten. Hopefully the Manila Embassy will update their packet 4 information to clearly indicate the instructions.

I think you got confused with him addressing both forms in 1 sentance there oakwell, uling clearly stated that the ds-157 is the form that is validated when payment is made .

No, I checked it. It is a mistake on US Embassy Letterhead (accessed from Uling's link). They are the ones who listed the wrong form. It doesn't give me much of a warm and fuzzy feeling that the Embassy lists the wrong form in their letter. I re-read it twice. They instruct to have the DS156 validated. But Lilia recently paid her USE fee at BPI and they issued her a stamped DS157 blank that she had to [again] complete and copy.

Rob - I have updated packet 4 to correctly state the DS-157 form is validated by the bank, but I can not upload the file until I arrive at home because pop-ups are prohibited. Cheers!!!

Yup, Sheriff Uling did mention that error. Wonder if there's a way for the Sheriff to "order" the embassy to correct their mistake

Hi all, hope everyone had a good Christmas. Marivic and I processed through Detroit for POE this morning via Manila - Japan. The POE was a simple 2 minute stand at the window get a few stamps and hand them the sealed envelope. We are both jet lagged but very happy to be home together. It was the first time I have flown home from the Phils without feeling so depressed ;-)

Lilia went to her interview on schedule this morning. Luckily, with her appointment letter in hand, she got into the embassy. Even though the nurse at St. Lukes wrote on the face of the interview letter "Sputum test Jan 9,10,11".

The pre-screener took her appointment letter and told her she could not complete the interview with sputum tests to be performed. She told her they would schedule a new appointment for her and mail it to her. Ruh Ro. That means I have to start calling and faxing again. The guard told her that she needs to follow up on the new appointment or it will take a long time. I am beginning to feel a bit masochistic [spank me more. I love it.]

We had a small chance (+/- 1%) of doing the interview today and coming back when medical tests are complete. But we accomplished one thing positive today. She will NOT be regarded as a no-show. That was a fear, despite any faxes and phone calls I might have made in advance.

I am hoping that since she has already completed all her medical except the TB tests, they won't throw us out too far at sea. I plan to file an expedited request as soon as I get the new appointment. Good news on her bronchitis, the antibiotics and decongestants have totally wiped out all congestion and cough. She is totally healthy and ready to prove it to any body who pops off to her (she is a brown belt). She is not very happy right now.

Thanks to all the good wishes, both public and private. I love you guys but can't wait to leave you.

that s a good news rob bout her health...though she will have a new appointment, ull just to wait more and be patient uve been so patient

im looking for hotels now near the embassy, my fiance booked my flights already. he is looking for a place for me too where i could stay near DFA and St. Luke...ill have my passport renewed then medical exam will follow...

Is CFO office just around the area?ill attend the seminar first before the renewal.

any suggestions for places to stay?

my intyernet connection now is so fast!last night and the other day, i experienced disconnection.i cant even call manila to check hotels. but good thing my fiance still can contact me through the cellphone...i miss him so much!

bayantel has badly affected, pldt and other company are sill affected but not that much, internet is still working but just experience disconnections not all the time...mine is my dsl...i fell asleep last night waiting to reconnect!

Hi PW, Quick update. Manila received 12/19/06.

The lady at the embassy told me again that they received it electronically 12/14/06 and that our interview would be 3 to 4 months from that date.
