Manila Embassy Interview

Hi everyone:
We really need help. I am on K1. My interview will be next month we just noticed that on my birth certificate from NSO, my father's first name is mispelled instead of lorenZo it is lorenSo. We're still going to LCR to have this corrected but i understand this will take time and we have 2 months to go.Anyone have the same case or any input on this?

My fiancee has something similar. Her original BC has a handwritten correction of her fathers name since it was typed wrong. This is her offical record with NSO. We have documentation that it was done at the LCR. She asked NSO to correct her BC. They told they would not correct it since it was her fathers name and not hers that was mispelled. Furthermore they told her the USE would not have a problem with it. I'm not so sure they really know that though. I guess we will find out.

Please update my listing...Churchita received her packet 4 on 11/28/06. She's doing her medical at St. Luke's this week, December 5-6. I will be flying over to be with her for her interview on January 11, leaving the US on January 7. I've made airline reservations for all 3 of us (myself, Churchita, and her daughter Avril) to fly back to Chicago on January 19. We are hoping that we can pick up the visa at the USE on January 12 or the following week. By the way, for all those who are having interviews around January 11...don't forget that the USE will be closed Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday. Since it's a federal holiday in the US, the Embassy will be closed, too, along with all of the other federal offices.

I am also interested in what happened at the initial medical exam date. When the x-rays were taken, what happened then? I have a friend who's fiancee had her medical recently. They have asked her to come back for three days of phlem testing. Did the same happen to you? When did they inform the girl she had active TB? Thanks, Marilyn and Peter.

That is what I am asking. They only way to tell if it is active is a combination of test, not just an xray and labs results take a couple of days. Unless she was showing symptoms, which he says she was not, I'd get a second opinion like at Makati Medical or even St Lukes without telling them the results of the scheduled medical. Let us know what you find out. Payato

We really need help. I am on K1. My interview will be next month we just noticed that on my birth certificate from NSO, my father's first name is mispelled instead of lorenZo it is lorenSo. We're still going to LCR to have this corrected but i understand this will take time and we have 2 months to go.Anyone have the same case or any input on this?

It is much better that you DON"T correct it. Just leave it the way it is. A correction on your BC is more likely to get you AR than a misspelled name of your father. At least your birth certificate remains unchanged and original, and hopefully not late registered. At least it is authentic.

There has already been one case of AR because the BC was changed to reflect the correct spelling of the father's first name.

I don't agree. To be honest i think if they request you to change it or submit more proof it will take longer than a review of documents. I assume you spell is right on all your documents. They can always think that the BC isn't correct because of the diff spelling and the fact that It's a pretty common name. The question that no can answer is will they Accept it or put you on AR. That could be totally diff depending on the consular.

The other problem is, 2 months isn't enough time to correct it unless you know someone in the Manila NSO who handles Corrections. Best bet is to bring some of your fathers documents and let them know it is being corrected. I'm sure they won't miss it and they might even say it's not a problem. It doesn't hurt to be honest about it because we all know records in the Philippines are pretty bad. That my Opin.

OK, if you want to be really prepared, make sure you have two copies of current BC. Then change it through NSO, but hold back corrected copy until interview. You will be prepared if they catch the spelling error and you will be prepared if they don't.

The light at the end of the tunnel!

To all of the couples who are traveling this long journey I wanted to wish you lots of luck and to let you know it is all so worth it!

I am here now in Manila with my Hon and we are preparing for our flight back to the U.S.

Welcome back, PW... So you were at puerto galera! Just last month, S and I spent ten nice, quiet days there at Aninuan Beach, far from the maddening crowd of White Beach and Sabang. It is a nice place, for old decrepit couples like we are, looking for peace and quiet. Sun and waves and walking up and down the beach in the early morning and late afternoon till the moon comes out... picking shells and stones.. yup,S noticed how the weight of our baggaes doubled and realized I took half of the beach home with me!

We stayed at Small La Laguna to be near our dive school (we took dive lessons). We're not party people either so we stayed at Small La Laguna most of the time even if Sabang is nearby. Yup, I almost brought home the stones i picked up along the way. A lot of them are white, very smooth and flat, very nice!

Are you guys talking about Sabang and Aninuan Beach and Puerto Galera in Surigao del Norte Area? Thanks just curious, im from surigao.

Hi, sorry for the delay i just got back to the states last night..irish recieved her visa from delbros on tuesday the 21st of november..but she wont be able to come home to me until march 28th coz the CFO wouldnt give her her certificate until her 18th birthday which is March 21st.. x x x
.anyone else ever have this happen to them?I would think with an approved visa it should be fine coz she also had parental consent to marry and be accompaned by me to the US.

Keith, if you remember the thread you posted in another forum, a woman is not allowed to marry in the Philippines until she is 18 years old and any parental consent is considered null and void according to our Family Code. I mentioned also that if ever Irish passes embassy interview, she would have to contend with the CFO and our Immigration people. If she passes all three, then she is indeed very lucky but unfortunately for you and her, our CFO was able to catch the age issue. If CFO did not catch it, our Immigration would.

I’m sorry that you have to wait a little longer but count yourself lucky that the embassy did not deny the visa due to her age. You would have had to file another petition. One lady did not get past the consul due to her being 17 at time of interview.

I have been through both Terminal 1 and 2, five times this year alone and many more times with friends wearing the knock off watches from the PI and Thailand, clothes from Korea...etc. None of them have ever even been questioned. I think what they are referring to to is the mass quanities OSWs try to bring back to the states or wherever they are working for profit.

During my US trip last year, the Immigration guy (mind you, not the Customs guy) asked me if I had any fake Louis Vuitton with me. So they randomly ask people. I read a US Customs regulation (can't find it now) that one may bring one each of fake signature paraphernalia (wallet, shoes, bag) for a maximum of 3 pieces for personal use but personally, I would not risk bringing any fake items with me since I could face a stiff fine, imprisonment and worst, a deportation!

My fiancé failed her medical exam, what happens now? (K-1)
St. Lukes discovered that she had active TB! She is undergoing treatment and will not be eligible for her interview in 6 months. No one knew of her aliment until she went to the medical exam, about a week early. St Lukes told her that they canceled the interview, for now. She is curable, doing the traement etc. We think she may have gotten infected when Luzon was struck by typhoons earlier this year.

I called the embassy and they said that I need to fax them some basic information (case number, etc) and that I must sign it, to show that I am not abandoning the petition. Needless to say, I am sticking it out with her for the long haul. She did not attend the interview because she was told not too. When I called the embassy, they said that it is proper but that she is 'showing' as a no-show. (hence why I ned to send the fax)

1. When she gets the 'OK' from St. Lukes, how do we get a her a new interview?

2. Will she have to get a new NSO birth certificate, in addition to a new NBI clearance? I am sure that I will

have to send her a new ITR, but is there anything else that she will need to get?

3. Does any one have any suggestions about what we should be doing, besides sitting on our hands,

crying?
