i have a question. ive read somewhere that on the ds156 form, you have to fill out "self" on line 40. will it be okay if my fiance used a pen to write this down instead of having to fill out another computer generated form?

for ds156K, another question. on the portion that says do not write below this line, a consular officer will assist you... i have read that we should fill out that area prior to submission to the embassy?

i hope someone can help out with this, if we do need to fill this out now or later on. thanks guys

Thanks roymcn3rd! I feel the same as YnaYeBa0808 - I have dotted all of the i's crossed all of the t's but still want to check and double check. The thought of this process taking one day longer because of some small paper work detail is intolerable right now.

We have been patient. We have followed the rules, but now it is time for the waiting to be over!

On that note what is the last that has been heard about the Delbros delivery fee? I know that it varies depending on where the beneficiary lives. So Metro Manila delivery should cost about....?

I wonder if anyone else has major problems getting past the menu with USE, it just doesn't respond to 7 or 0 most of the time and you have to redial. If you get thru it's busy for over a half hour.

hahahahhaha uling and PW you guys are funny. my fiance thinks im just going to burst out in tears and start wailing in front of the consular due to nervousness and anticipation. anywho, after reading roy's post i was just thinking about that, i dont even know if im going to make it to the consular officer's door!!!! yeech, ive been known to pass out alot. one time i passed across the street from my house. i broke my ankle and fainted due to severe pain. all i remember saying was im seeing stars... stars... oh my rainbows rainbows then i totally blacked out. next thing i know i was in my bedroom and my friends were slapping me in the face trying to wake me up! hahahah!!!! talk about panic attacks... racking my brains still on the darn forms.

regarding my question earlier, any thoughts??? yeeeeechhhhhhhhhh

I think we have some good news, they said the case came back from the Philippines government last week and is waiting review. She said no time period on it being reviewed again but last time i called they said it normally takes 2 weeks. When has the embassy ever been on time tho?? I feel a little bit better that at least it's at the embassy. Now the worry about whether it will be approved or not.

can we all get in on that action? YnaYabe, relax. take nice, slow and easy deep breaths. i'm sure you'll do fine. easy for me to say since those of us with Dec interviews will be having the panic attacks next month. seeing all the approvals in November will ease our tension, knowing we're all going to get thru it. we'll all reach that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. VISA APPROVALS!!!

as far as the bottom of the DS-156k, to me that looks like something we leave blank. looks like the CO will witness the signature. hopefully someone will let us know if otherwise.

The question in line 39 is “Was this application prepared by another person on your behalf? (If answer is YES, then have that person complete item 40).

I left line 40 blank since I answered NO and did not have any problem with it.

As instructed, I did not write below the line. The consul asked me to write my fiance’s name and to sign the form in front of him.

Regarding hotels near the CFO seminar area in Cubao, there are 2 good, clean and cheap hotels:Sogo hotel is along EDSA near the intersection of Aurora Blvd and the other one is Eurotel, inside the Araneta Center commercial complex. Both hotels are around P500 per night, and decently clean, usually for short 2-3 day accomodations. I even have discount coupons given by the owners. You can take a taxi from the hotel and it is near the CFO seminar venue.

I personally know the owners of the Sogo hotel chain and just discovered that this is a cheap alternative for transients staying only for a few days. I have seen the rooms and no hanky panky for the good rate.

By the way, for those who are planning to stay in the Manila area for a few days for the seminars or for interviews, you may call me at 0918-4128538 if you need some help. I could mentor you and I live in the Greenhills area and I could play big sister to you...actually, almost a mother, but still waiting for the interview and get married to my dear fiancee who is also almost my age...well, never too late, I guess. My mother-in-law in USA prays for me and says she loves Filipinas because we are so hardworking.

i have a question. Ive read somewhere that on the ds156 form, you have to fill out "self" on line 40. will it be okay if my fiance used a pen to write this down instead of having to fill out another computer generated form?

About the pencil part, I do not know how the embassy would respond to it. But just a thought: Since people suggest that you take a couple copies to the interview, when you make a Xerox copy of the documents, the copy would then be in "ink". Just be sure not to fold or damage the copies and take all of the originals with you, just in case they ask for the stuff. You should be OK, just take the originals and some xerox copies.

for ds156K, another question. on the portion that says do not write below this line, a consular officer will assist you... i have read that we should fill out that area prior to submission to the embassy?

The reason why the Embassy does not want you to fill that out prior to them telling you to fill it out is because they must physically see YOU fill it out, to prove that you, not someone else completed that part of the form. Those statements (yes/no questions-like on the form DS-156, page 2) is a sworn statement by you, not your fiancée/spouse. If he fills it out, then it is no longer valid. So, you must fill it out in front of the embassy staff. Then, when the embassy staff fills/signs their part out at the bottom of form DS-156K, then they are legally swearing that YOU filled the thing out, not someone else. Basically, anyone can fill the parts out about names, address and so on (the personal data/information). However, no one is allowed to swear to or 'attest' to the information as being acurate/true, only you can make the legal swear/promise/affirm. That part is just for you alone!

Also, on the back of DS-156k, there is a place for the name of the person you intend to marry. My understanding is that your future asawa CAN fill that part out with their name, simply because it is just a name (in other words, just simple data). The rest, must be left blank. Everything else (other than the name of the person you intend to marry and your signature) is used by the embassy staff to 'notarize' that legal document. Since it is the Embassy of the United States of America, and that is how all important documents are legally validated in the US. So, that is what those spaces are for. When it gets notarizaed, the staff will also emboss the document with a raised seal or a stamp, as agent of the US government, so they must see you signing the form. If the form was signed away from the staff, then it is not legal.
