Actually I've a VisaBuxx account set-up for my fiancee which is much like a teen pre-paid card. But the rub on this account is that only $100 per week can be withdrawn at ATMs. For times when she needs "bigger" chunks of cash, I'm forced to take another approach.

I got Lilia a debit card through www.netspend.com and it works great. It is a Master Card/Debit Card. I can fund it online as a pre-paid card. There are excellent records online to print off as proof of support. Lilia can draw several hundred dollars on one day, but depends on per transaction limit of ATM. If you have an ACE Cash Express close, you can get one there. They charge $4.95 per cash withdrawal, but that is a lot cheaper than xoom.com or Western Union.

I can add funds even at my local supermarket (Tom Thumb) or online from my bank and they are available within 2 minutes. It is very handy for us.

Marlene and I set up a separate account at our bank with an ATM card. We will leave the card with her mother when we visit in December/January. Whenever we want to give them some money, we can transfer the amount to this account from our main account online and the funds are available immediately at an ATM there.

That's a good idea. When Jenalyn leaves end of Demember (hopefully) she can leave her debit-card with her parents. They couldn't use it at a store, but they could withdraw money from an ATM with it. Because we all know that it is not "if" you send a filipino wife's family some cash, its "how much." (and "how often")

DHL must be cutting corners to make more money from the fee they're paid to deliver the package. DHL called my Fiance, asked her to come to their office to pick up her package. they said didn't have her address. she was at her office in downtown Davao. she asked if they would deliver it there. they said couldn't do it. so, she went to the DHL Office to pick it up and gee, guess what, her correct home address was on the package. remember earlier in this thread someone said they were asked 1000p to have it delivered to their home or to come to their office to pick it up. hope others aren't having similar experiences.

They (DHL) also called my fiancee and the delivery man asked if they could meet at McDonalds, which is about two minutes from her place. Ironically she was across the street from McDonalds chatting with me. So she told him yes and he called her back when he arrived there. So, it would be safe assessment that they may be cutting corners here and there to save time (and possibly money). What can you expect... all of my Pinoy friends and officemates always complain about how crocked people are in the Phil. I still love it there!!! LOL!

Hi Gobdogman (that was a cute blush ). NVC sends the case file electronically and by courier. The arrival of the physical file (via courier) is what we have to watch for. Is it safe to assume that October 17 is the electronic transfer by NVC and not physical receipt by Manila Embassy?

hello pw, i just tracked our petition with dhl and it was deliverd on 10/20.

Now just waiting for them to give us an idea when we get our interview date.

Anyone have interview date and have to register birth abroad at same time before?

I am going to try and schedule both interviews together so we can save from making too many trips to manila.

Anyone with info on the ins and outs of doing this please all help would be appreciated.

I plan to stay in manila for 1 month and try to bring my fiancee and my baby boy home with me.

I know the feeling about being ready to do whatever it takes! One big problem I see there is that they have a holiday about once per week. Not to mention, God forbid anyone in the government working a 40 hour week. LOL

I'm actually a tab bit worried about that myself. I'll just do what I can and pray. God gives you what you need, not always what you want, and the rest is up to you. Someone told me that once. It still doesn't get any easier to accept because I pray for needs and wants. Come on... throw me a bone. LOL!
