Help y'all. :help:

I'm soon returning to the US after living for two years in New Zealand with my DAH. I will be bringing not only my personal effects on the plane but will be packing some household items, linens, silverware, etc. in suitcases. Do I need to complete the cf-3299? (no furniture)

Thanks for your help. :P

Yes, you need to list everything you are bringing, although you don't need to itemize it down so far as to 12 piece serving set, 3 platters, 22 mugs, etc.:-)

list contents of boxes such as 'china service, pots and pans, figurines, books, personal papers, etc. Personal belongings that are more than 1 year old are importable without duty as long as they are not the proscribed items (ie liquor, tobacco, materials made from endangered species, etc.). Customs still need to know what it is you are bringing so they also know you don't need to pay import fees. Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I am a returning resident taking some household items back to the US with me in extra suitcases and it is my understanding that as a returning resident doing that, I have to declare to CBP what the articles are. The only form I have found so far is Customs Form #3299 but that is for unaccompanied articles. I wanted to know if other returning residents had used this form if they had accompanied articles to declare or if there is a different form for accompanied articles. :unsure:

you do need to fill it out and give it to the shipper. i shipped with UPS and gave them that form along with a photocopy of my visa and i-94. then customs said i had to give them that form so i resent it to UPS. when I got my packages after almost 20 days the original form was pasted on the packages.

So that´s not necessary for us foreign fiancees, is it?

There is a mention about a custom form in a thread on K-1 today:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...18949&st=15

but I don't know what custom form they are referencing. It sounds like one may be given out on the plane?

Also, I'm not asking what form to use when shipping boxes or furniture, I know that is the #3299, which is for unaccompanied articles, I'm trying to find out if you use the same form when you are taking extra suitcases of household items on the plane with you as excess baggage.

everyone who is bringing their stuff with them via a shipping company must fill out this form or risk having to pay duty on it

Yep, know that, thanks. :yes:

Do you know if there is a different form (other than #3299 which is for items sent by a shipping company) to use when you are bringing extra suitcases of household items as excess baggage on the same plane you are traveling back to the US on? 126F3A115.gif

What about if I bring everything I can take with me (once everything is ready for me to move:) ) in my car and drive over to the border? Any papers to fill out?

CBP Form 3299 is for unaccompanied goods. if they will be going along with you in your car or on the same flight, then this form is useless to you. i don't know of any other forms you would have to fill out other than the regular blue customs form the airline gives you, or that they make you fill out at the border.

You are going to need a general inventory of some sort. The #6059B given out on planes/borders will probably be the one for accompanied items. The reason I lean toward the #3299 is that it has provisions for returning residents and immigrants to declare items. I've emailed CBP as asked which form will be correct to use in my case, their auto response says it will take 10-15 business days for an answer. I know you can also ask POE's and there are some preclearance locations in Canada with phone numbers you could call. See:

Just saw this on CBP's site too, which is the only place I've seen them mention using the #6059B for accompanying goods:

Moving to U.S. with household and personal effects, about the packing / inventory list ;

Question

Moving to U.S. with household and personal effects, about the packing / inventory list;

Answer

When completing the Customs and Border Protection Form (CBP Form) 6059B, "Customs Declaration," for accompanying goods or the CBP Form 3299 "Declaration For Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles," the statement that the goods are "household effects" is not enough information. The complete inventory of imported goods will be treated as the packing list and must be provided to CBP upon request. Note that any nonconforming motor vehicle or engine, which is 21 years old or greater and has not been modified within that time, is considered by EPA to be exempted from Federal emission requirements.
