nadine ...

i'm surprised that noone addressed this but .... ALWAYS tell the truth!! your evidence needs to support what you are saying. with the introduction of lying, you are setting yourself up for future problems!

don't create another headache when this process is already stressful enough! one little slipup and it could be your curtain call!

I thought I already stated that I don't have the intention at all to lie about how we met. Neither did my fiance seriously try to make me lie. It was more a joke (kinda an inside joke between the two of us, since he tried to get around the facts when his mom asked me how we met). Sorry I made you think we're considering to "cheat" here.

I just needed some reassurance, that the fact we met online, won't cause us any problems.

Thanks for showing your concerns though!!! :)

Now, a dating service such as Match.com focuses on introducing you to people in your area....they dont specificlly focus on international dating and they don't charge you anything additional for exploring that possibility on your own. In my opinion this qualifies them as a valid exception to the Marriage Broker definition. By all means I am not 100% sure but believe me when I say I will find out and share my findings with this forum.

This is how my guy and I met too. I'm hoping for some clarity as well before we file. I guess it will simply become clear as more people question it themselves. But should any of you have first hand experience.. let me know!

Here are some quotes from mail order bride websites compiled by the Tahirih Justice Center that support your view:

“Most Asian ladies fill out an application saying what they want. … If a guy went shopping he is going to buy what interest him, not what interest you. … The ladies who use words like below, improve their chances of meeting someone: ‘If I meet a man who loves me, I'm going to love him forever. I hope to meet a family man that I can be a good wife for. I want to meet a man who is responsible and I'll be there for him for better or worse.’ ” (www.filipinalady.biz/asian-ladies-advise-for-ladies.htm)

“Women from Asia are gentle. They don't bust your chops, when you are home a little late, or forget an anniversary.” (http://www.heart-of-asia.com/gen/whyasia.html)

“These women have a different outlook on life and marriage. They are less materialistic than their American counterparts and are more family oriented. As wives, they desire to build a loving home, follow their husband's lead, and stick with the marriage, even when times get tough and things stop being ‘fun.’” (http://www.encount.com/ladies/)

“Have you been twice married to modern women who were too involved in their careers and your bank accounts? Think about a kind Russian girl!” (personals.agava.ru/)

I want to meet a man who is responsible and I'll be there for him for better or worse.’ ”

Just replace the genders in the phrases above and what's the problem? "‘If I meet a woman who loves me, I'm going to love her forever. I hope to meet a family woman that I can be a good husband for. I want to meet a woman who is responsible and I'll be there for her for better or worse.’

“Women from Asia are gentle. They don't bust your chops, when you are home a little late, or forget an anniversary.”

Wouldn't a woman want a man who is gentle and doesn't "bust her chops" when she comes home a little late or forgets his birthday?

“These women have a different outlook on life and marriage. They are less materialistic than their American counterparts and are more family oriented. As wives, they desire to build a loving home, follow their husband's lead, and stick with the marriage, even when times get tough and things stop being ‘fun.’”

Again, reverse the genders and I don't see a problem with this. Don't women want a man who is "more family oriented, desires to build a loving home, sometimes follow their partner's lead, and stick with the marriage, even when times get tough and things stop being ‘fun.’?

“Have you been twice married to modern women who were too involved in their careers and your bank accounts? Think about a kind Russian girl!”

If someone had been "twice married to modern women who were too involved in their careers and your bank accounts", can you blame them for looking elsewhere and who are you to tell them they can't or shouldn't? And what's wrong with saying that Russian women are kind? American websites have every right to say that American women are better if they want to. Are you really looking for truth in advertising? These are business sites for crying out loud.

I think Imbra2005 just doesn't like the idea of some men looking for women of different cultures and attitudes other than her own. I think she finds it insulting. Just my opinion. I will probably get lots of flames for this. Some of the other sites you quote I totally agree with you, and I find them outrageous. With all due respect to those non-abusers who used marriage brokers, I don't understand why anyone would choose that route. Wouldn't it be cheaper and more to your advantage to go on a reputable dating site to find your true life's partner? I don't get it.

One last question...

Assuming that the RFE is going to only address the new questions added to the new I-129F form, out of the 10,000 applicants which have been put on hold, what percent of those do you guess are not going to put a check mark in any box in regards to a conviction of the crimes mentioned? What percentage are not going to put a check mark in the box asking if they used a marriage broker? My guess is that the VAST majority of applicants (98%?), including me, are going to leave all boxes unchecked and sign the form. I'm just curious to know how many of those 10,000 really needed to have had their lives disrupted in such a way. Why didn't they just put up the new I-129F form the day the law went into affect or put the law into affect when they had the forms? Sorry, that's more than one question!

Flame away!

Just to clarify, I am saying that anyone who falls for the notion that foreign women are easier to get along with than American women is a fool. These quotes are just advertising tactics geared for the gullible. Every rational individual knows that there are good and bad people in every country on this planet and that a soulmate can be found right next door at times. It's just that it's easy for Imbra2005 to mix some not-so-bad quotes with some very offensive quotes to have more amunition for her cause and to influence others to believe that all the quotes are horrendous.

I think you make some good points and there's nothing wrong with looking for certain qualities within a partner. How can an agency, however, advertise women's attitudes as if they are all cookie cutter to a specific personality? I realize that culture has an influence on attitudes in general, but it seems a bit contrived for a marriage broker to declare their women are all 'like this'. I guess you have to ask yourself if all things being equal, would these women be using the site. I have no problem with the idea that many of us are attracted to people who are different from us in terms of culture and customs, etc. I come from a family of 5 boys and all of my brothers met and married women that were from different cultures (Ecuador, Czech Republic, Germany, Tonga).

As far as leaving the new form boxes unchecked - are you saying that you won't disclose whether you used a Marriage Broker? I honestly think that would be disasterous for you and your fiancee.

Thanks very much for the advice and concern. However, I did not use a marriage broker. I wish you both the best!
