Hey all,

Yep, it's been two, long, hard, happily married blissful years since she got that green card in the mail. We got the paper the other day "File the I-751 or else we'll send her back home."

So, what do we do now?

I know we have to complete that form, mail the check, and that's pretty much it. My questions are -

1. Finger print cards. Do they have to be done first and then sent in or are you sending in cards with no finger prints on them?

2. What "supporting documentation" did you guys send?

Thanks for your time and pointers. Oh, and donations are gladly accepted (Holy ####### is it expensive!) via PayPal, check, money order, etc.

I checked the guides and even read the instructions. That's what got me messed up. "Geez, I really have to send all that #######?" It didn't make sense to me that I'd have to acquire finger print cards to send in. And then all that other stuff they wanna see? Come on!

I'm going to send bank info, tax info, copies of car payment/insurance, a few photos, and that's about it.

Think that's enough?

I would resend everything that you have to support you are still together. There is no guarantee they will look through the rest of your file. I think all they look at is the I-751 and supporting information that you enclose. Just my opinion. I would and did send in some of the same things. Of course, some of it was more recent... checking account and saving account statements, bills, etc. I sent everything just like it was the first time. I did not want to get an RFE, nor get disapproved.

My biggest tip is to read the guide. I followed the guide and outside of being a bozo and using an old form we had no problems and Claudeth's 10-year card was approved in about 5 months.

I just finished putting our I-751 package together, so I have not tips, because who knows what will happen... but this is what I put in there:

Cover letter

Check maybe most important?

Copies of current green cards (front and back)

Joint tax return copies 2007, 2008

Copy of Insurance document showing Olya and Anya as benificiaries

Lease agreement copy

Car insurance with both names/same with health insurance

Bank statement showing joint account

Various utility bills in both names

4 pictures of us together on regular paper

Thats it. I'm confident that is enough, but we shall see. Good luck!

K1 Visa Process long ago and far away...

02/09/06 - NOA1 date

12/17/06 - Married!

AOS Process a fading memory...

01/31/07 - Mailed AOS/EAD package for Olga and Anya

06/01/07 - Green card arrived in mail

Removing Conditions

03/02/09 - Mailed I-751 package (CSC)

03/06/09 - Check cashed

03/10/09 - Recieved Olga's NOA1

03/28/09 - Olga did biometrics

05/11/09 - Anya recieved NOA1 (took a call to USCIS to take care of it, oddly, they were helpful)

Claudeth's 10-year card was approved in about 5 months.

Does it really take that long?

Here in Ohio her DL expires on the same date as here GC. If it takes 5 months and you can only send in the paperwork 3 months prior, do they fall into that same "twilight zone" they were in when they were married here but didn't have the GC yet?

One thing my wife is really concerned about is driving, working, etc. and the possible gap inbetween receiving her new card and expiration of her old one. How do they smooth that over? Or, are most cases resolved within that 3 month window?

Thats it. I'm confident that is enough, but we shall see. Good luck!

That's all I'm going to send as well. I'm confident that's enough too. A few years ago when we were starting the K-1 process it seemed like you had to have "substantial proof" of a real relationship. Now, a couple of forms in compliance is more of a formality than anything else. Oh how times have changed!

I can't really comment on how long it "normally" takes. The first time I went through it, Katrina happened literally days before we were scheduled for our biometric appointment. It took about 2 months before they could even get access to the building to find out if our files were still intact. Then the government established procedures for how to handle the cases of those who had been displaced by the hurricane.... problem was-- we lived in Baton Rouge and had only minimal damage so had never been displaced. So we kept being told that the new procedures didn't apply to us.... we just kept being told to wait while they decided what to do with us. Once they finally decided what to do--- well... that's another story!

But after you submit your application you'll receive a letter stating that your status has been extended. It will tell you that you can use this letter just like your green card for employment and travel purposes.

CLEARLY states in the instruction you don't need the fingerprints unless you are filing from abroad!!! :bonk:

People are getting approval in less than 2 months from CSC at this time if you have enough evidence and they won't require an interview.

Just filled out the paperwork today ourselves. At least the I-751 is only like 2 pages. Most of the work is just photocopying the mountain of papers we have around the house. A good excuse to clean I guess.
