Postpone your trip this time, then fly when you have your new GC.

you can risk it. just file your papers and go to your country... i don't think you are going to receive biometrics letter in a month.. especially if you are filing to Vermont ! .. or you can wait and go to your country after biometrics.. cause you can not miss biometrics..

honestly,i would just go and come back before my green card expires

We recently had to make this decision.

We have a trip planned from March 23 to April 2.

Husband's card expires April 20.

Our original plan was to file literally as we were leaving the country. With such a short trip that probably would have worked.

At the end of the day we decided to file as soon as we were able. We mailed the paperwork January 26 (just a few days after eligibility). His biometrics were taken February 20 (which was pretty quickly).

So if you're really concerned about it, I would file in April as soon as I could. You are likely to get a biometrics notice before your trip. Find out when the "walk in" day for your local office is. If your appointment notice isn't arriving before the trip, you can always take your receipt from filing with you and ask for a biometric collection because of the trip.

Or you could schedule your trip for a bit later out. You can travel after your card has expired as long as you carry your extension letter with you.
