translator and a Cert. of Good Conduct

Hello VJers!!!

It is me again with some more questions. First, for those who know how the Nairobi Embassy works - will they provide a translator for a Somali speaker since my wife neither speaks English nor Swahili. Better yet, will they allow me to be the translator for her? If not, will they at least allow me to go with her to the interview?

The NVC, after reviewing the AOS packet and the DS230, is requesting from my wife to get a certificate of good conduct from Kenya's local police office. The problem is she is not a Kenya citizen and Kenya will not issue her such a certificate nor does she have any form of id whatsoever.

She escaped to Kenya January of last year (2008) on a bus with her father as they survived the turmoil and the never-ending civil war of Somali. The rest of her family (mother, siblings, aunt) are missing, most likely still in Somali, but only Allah knows. So anyway, to add to her loneliness (being away from her family and now her husband), they are requesting from us to bring all these documents (passports, cert, of good conduct) which are not obtainable. So what you reckon we do? How do we go and take care of this confusion state?

We are really praying to Allah and hoping for an April interview date (since March seems out of reach). So please help me and my wife with advice, suggestions, recommendations, etc.

Thank you all and both my wife and I really appreciate it. :)

Waiting for your replies.

Take care and in Peace.

She will need a police certificate from each country she has lived in for 6 months from the age of 16. In some cases they are not obtainable.

I would check here for more information: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3671.html

I would think that if you make the consulate aware of the situation then they will be able to help you.

You may also want to search for other Somali members on VJ (I think there was one other one that did a CR1 - lib2008). They have not been on here for some time, but you can try sending them a PM.

Good luck :)
