LCDs response to fast moving pictures is now up to the generation where it is fast enough to avoid the loss of attention.

PLASMAS now have software to control the burn-in effect. This eliminates the burn-in indefinitely, so we can sit back an relax.

I prefer LCDs over PLASMAS any day though. Better for games since they produce superb geometry for a video game enthusiast.

The Philips 32" LCD that I have, has Pixel Plus 3HD. :)

Pixel Plus 3HD and ClearLCD™

The difference is as if you're seeing the Mona Lisa up close, rather than in a book. That's what Pixel Plus 3HD does to content from various sources, including HD and DVD material - it brings your greater picture sharpness, true natural detail, increased depth impression and can reproduce more than four trillion colors. There'll even be shades you've never seen before on your television screen.

The technology works to alter each pixel of any incoming picture, matching it to its surrounding pixels in a true natural picture. This enables brilliant and vivid colors while preserving white tones and natural skin tones.

Within the Pixel Plus 3HD technology is the Digital Natural Motion system which smoothes out blurring effects, resulting in a natural screen motion. With this advanced science to help compensate motion-blur and improve the clarity of moving pictures, you'll get perfectly smooth, judder-free and razor-sharp moving images. And especially so when there's a lot of action and movement on screen such as a wildlife documentary, an action movie or your favorite sitcom.

ClearLCD™, the last component of the Pixel Plus 3HD core technology, provides razor sharp moving images, dramatically increased black levels and contrast, and a much wider viewing angle.

lcd_notes.jpg

This, it does, by optimizing picture quality further by addressing two common limitations of today's LCD TVs: motion artifacts in fast moving pictures and reduced contrast in rooms with low ambient illumination.

The result is considered a major breakthrough for the television industry and adds to the long list of achievements of a company that is a world leader in lighting and consumer electronics.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Mine's only a 32", 720p and I bought it back in November of 2007, but when I saw it side by side with Sony and Samsung, the picture looked just as good and for a couple of hundred less.

Spend a couple of extra minutes in my video rental store looking at Blu-Ray DVD's, and wondered why I paid 40 bucks with a 50 buck apology coupon from Best-Buy for a new Sony DVD player without Blu-Ray when maybe I could have spend a couple of bucks more. Turns out that couple bucks is a couple of thousand if looking at a Sony.

With our old projector, wife commented on the screen being off, got my tape measure and asked, how did this happen, six inches off. I moved the projector and not only did the screen center properly, but the picture came through extremely sharp. Also compounded by the fact that when I got that new Sony, never bothered with reading the 65 page manual that came with it. Read that and found all kinds of setup menus, just have to stand on your head and push the display button twice in less than a half a second to get to all those menus. We effectively have 910 lines of horizontal resolution and the text at the end of the movie is crystal clear. Most of the movies today are low res with all those computer graphics.

All of this new stuff seems to be a waste too me. My son paid a fortune for an HDMI cable expecting miracles, couldn't barely tell the difference in his picture quality, but has HDMI on his player and projector, so had to try it.

Blurry in photography is very common to present a more pleasing picture, try making a photo of yourself using either 500 or 100 dpi resolution. Everyone is going nuts with resolution and the number of pixels. Here that all the time, how many pixels do you have in your camera, I don't know, think they say 8M but never take shots with that high of a resolution. Well my camera has nine so it's better than yours.

Your choices vary quite a bit. A 1080P screen would be best but I have a 32in 1080P and to be honest in my point of view the small screen negates the benefits of 1080P. Out of your choices I would go for the 42in plasma even though it is 720P.

my brother told me to stay away from Plasma because of the burn in thing

The give off a lot of heat too, especially when they are on for a long time. Marilyn, have you guys considered getting an OLED? The prices have come down a bit just in the past year. But if that's out of your price range - I've seen some really good LCD's for hundreds of dollars cheaper than they were a year ago.

OLED TV vs. Plasma TV

Plasma TV technology appears to be much more closely related to OLED TV technology than its rival LCD. This “future of TV” format has many similarities with plasma technique, as we will see below. OLED TV (organic light emitting diode) is the newest (and best) technology in the lively TV/display market and my opinion is that it will be a viable alternative to plasma TV and LCD TVs in the future. It amazes me that DLP was such a vaunted television format just a few short years ago and now, with the onslaught of lower priced 1080p LCD and plasma TVs, my prediction is that it will be no longer. In less than 2 years I believe there will be very few DLP or rear projection TVs available at all. But that’s another topic.

OLED TV color information is produced using organic carbon-based compounds, which emit red, green and blue lights in response to electric current. OLED television is most similar to plasma technology in that there is no backlight needed to light the screen. OLEDs use a cathode layer to introduce electrons to the first layer of organic molecules. OLED TV panels come with either two or three layers of the organic compounds, which are located in one super thin layer of the “glass”. In a similar way plasma pixel cells containing rare natural gases come alive from electric impulses introduces to the by a TFT (thin film transistor). OLEDs have red, green, and blue organic light emitting diode material much the same way that plasma has red, green and blue phosphors.

However, there is one very important difference in engineering the panel or glass. OLED TVs have one solid layer of plexiglass-like material which is extremely thin and light and contains all of the color compounds and TFT material needed. Therefore, the OLED panel is flexible (as in non-breakable) as well. Plasma panels are essentially a glass envelope, encasing the pixels cells that house the red, green, and blue phoshor. The glass envelope is what makes plasma panels heavy and breakable.
