LCDs are not low-tech actually.

Been around for the last 40 years with improvements in making the opacity proportional with voltage but mostly a printing process, actually the opacity depends upon the concentration of the number of pixels between turned on or off in any given area. Requires a back light and the distance between that backlight and the pixels determines the viewing area that is determined by the thickness of the diffuser, want to make it thicker for better diffusion, but a trade off in the distance for a narrower viewing range. Always tradeoffs, sick of tradeoffs.

Other disadvantages is either if the DC component of the driving waveform becomes too large or the screen becomes too cold, the pixels will be permanently opaque. Response time is also critical and for a large screen, the pixels have to be made as small as possible using extremely thin printed leads on the glass that translates to much lower yield rates. Yield rates are perhaps the greatest factor in determining cost, you are paying for the bad ones. And those extremely thin lead wires in a x,y matrix are subject to failure. Technology is a simple as turning a pixel on or off, brightness is best controlled by using PWM.

Design isn't as bad as it may seem, just perfect a very small segment and use a step and repeat process. Still have a high voltage going to the fluorescent tube that can cause problems, and they don't last forever.

Still an image, maybe one of these days, just an electronic device to send signals directly to our brain, that way you could watch a movie with your eyes closed. Or maybe using LED technology once they can make them small enough.

The reason you guys hate Plasma is because you are racist. You know that Plasma's deliver darker black colors. So you prefer LCD's which cannot deliver as dark colors.

I need to report this thread to Jesse Jackson.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

plasma vs. lcd. side by side, plasma has a far better picture.

I don't think that's true anymore....LCD's keep getting better. With adjustments on my LCD, I'm able to get as good a picture or better than in a movie theater.

Ha, but still have a tiny screen compared to a projector. But we have a 15" LCD in our motorhome, not bad really, wife and I have to cuddle up close to watch it. Sound is pretty bad so I plug the audio out into the vehicles' radio, to get surround sound, but have to listen to it on 6 by 9 inch speakers.

But hey, we are camping, and we are suppose to be roughing it.
