Hi

I am a US citizen applying for my mother to come here. Based on records, she has never been married to my father so i am putting single on her I-130 form but then on my birth certificate, she had used my father's last name as hers as she sometimes does.

Does this affect anything in terms of whether it creates a discrepancy between her real marital status (single but living together; they never got married...some weirdness) vs the name that she has on some of her records (some have her "maiden" name and others have my father's last name)

I am really trying to get things moving so she can come to my graduation next year, so quick responses will be most appreciated

Thanks

On forms where it says "Other Names Used" you will need to indicate this.

Proof of marital status is only needed in spousal visa cases.

The birth Cert linking her to you, and if at the consulate stage they do question this, they may require a DNA test to confirm relationship.

I have a question similar to this one. I am requesting my husband to come to the US but I havent changed my name here in the US yet should I changed my name to my new married name before I filed a request for my husband. The thing is that if I do that, my name would be different from boh my marriage certificate and my birth certificate.

Please any help will be greatly appreciated!

Your marriage certificate is all that is needed to show the change in name from your maiden name to your married name. so your bith certificate and marriage certificate together is all the evidence you need.
