My fiance is going for his interview at the Juarez Embassy next week. He has an 8-year old daughter, but was never married to her mother. Does anyone know if he will have to provide proof that they were never married at the interview? If so, how would he go about getting proof like that? I appreciate info from anyone who has had a similar situation and can give me some advice. Thanks! ;)

Are you petitioning for his child as well?

No, we aren't petitioning for his child.

Then no, he doesn't have to prove he was never married to the mother. If they WERE married, he must say so and show a divorce decree.

Then I wonder why would it even be an issue. Mexico has no such thing as a "never married" certificate and does not recognize common-law as marriage. Plus. if you did not write down previous marriages in his bio-sheet, I really do not think it will come up.

As far as him taking off an leaving an 8 year old child without a dad- that's another matter. But you didn't ask for my opinion on that one. ;)

Believe me, if her mom would allow her to come with him, she would be coming. However, she will be coming to spend every summer with us, as well as her Christmas break, and my fiance will return to visit her at least once each year on her birthday. It's never an ideal situation when both parents can't be in the picture full time, but unfortunately life happens like that sometimes. My ex-husband and I both live in the US, but not in the same state because of our respective jobs...therefore my kids have to endure the same situation. So, while I appreciate your concern, we're attempting to make this work out the best that we can.

Thanks for your info on the original question I asked ;)

I wish you the best of luck  --- you should be fine.

Yes good luck. But how do I prove I was never married to Marilyn Monroe...oh yeah, she died when I was 8.

Don't worry, it is almost impossible to prove you never did anything so they rarely ask.
