There are substantive objections to all of the things that Schwarzenegger mentions - but I do think that given the urgency of the economic situation that some of our politicians seem driven more by ideology than practicality.

In a perfect world, we'd all get everything we want for free...but at the end of the day, everything has a ripple effect & a direct effect on something else....It'd be great to say 'free health care with no new taxes...and a free pony too!'

*I* worry about healthcare....I am an independent contractor with a pre-existing medical condition that cost my prev health ins a ton of $$$. Did I whine about premiums or expect a gov't handout? No, I got a second fulltime job being employed with a company which offers health benefits.

Personal responsibility n all that jazz....I'm not patting myself on the back at all about this, but I bring it up to illustrate a solution where a person can solve their own problems without expecting it to be the nation's problem.

The whole point of reform is to create a bigger pool so that people who pay heavily into the system (those with existing problems normally) get something out of the system aside from bankruptcy.

Personal responsibility counts for squat in an economy where hundreds of thousands of people across the country are losing their jobs (and healthcare) each month through no fault of their own.

We (the collective "we") surely have to pay the consequences of our collective choices - just as someone who has heart disease through bad diet and lack of exercise must change those behaviours, an economy run on unsound principles which has incurred a massive (really really massive) national debt must tighten its belt and change the unsound underpinnings that have broken it - in order to return to a semblance of fiscal responsibility.

...and this is why the Republican Party is pushing itself towards irrelevance. Might as well hang a sign on GOP headquarters that says, "Extremists ONLY! No moderates allowed." Sad for the party....sad for this country.

Anything not to their extreme is an extreme.

Republicans must think letting uninsured but critically ill patients die of curable ailments promotes the general welfare of "we the people".
