Hey all,

I am not sure if this is in the correct area. Apologies if it is not.

I have the possibility to work for my current company remotely from the united states. My K1 visa has been approved and we are waiting on an interview date at the moment in time.

My question is, once I move to the states and get married, am I legally still allowed to work for a UK company? (i.e keep my UK bank account and pay UK taxes).

Many thanks for your help

Hi and congratulations to your K1 visa being approved :) Welcome to VJ!

There's certainly nothing from stopping you working for a UK company in the States and keeping your UK bank account active but why would you pay UK taxes whilst living and working in the US?

I can't see how this would cause a problem and not be legal.

It would not cause any conflict with the US for work permit as you would still be in effect employed by a UK employer as 'freelance'

Nothing illegal about your plan, but you should look into the tax situation: as you will be a US resident, I'd imagine you will need to pay US taxes even on UK based income.

Generally - You need to pay taxes on world wide income to the IRS - if you are also paying UK taxes - you should be able to get a credit for it. Search the IRS website for credit for Foreign taxes paid or some such words. I intend to do the same when we relocate to Colombia - I would have to pay taxes (after 5 years) to Colombia on my pension income and then I can take a tax credit on US taxes. Good Luck
