Dentist in Morocco

does anyone have any experience going to see a dentist in Morocco. My husband wants me to get my tooth fixed there cause it would be less money theb here with our ins.

thats what i'm saying henna, but he says the dentist he goes to there isn't bad. He is a big baby when it comes to pain.

I dunno, anyone with any advice or stories please!

I don't know what you are having done, but bring your current x-rays if it's something invasive

Would the cost of the dental work here greatly exceed the cost of a plane ticket and expenses over there?

My husband had to have some dental work here to repair dental work done there. He makes sure all is well with his teeth before visiting home now.

I wouldn't do it.

I went to the dentist yearly while there in the Peace Corps. There are dentists in Rabat and Marrakech (and probably in the other big towns) who service the foreign community. I can try and get you the name of those I used, if you want. I was always very happy with my cleanings. And a fellow volunteer in her sixties had crowns/root canals/whatever - harder type stuff and was pleased.

Just don't go to the "dentist" who advertises with a hand painted sign showing teeth in some little po-dunk town. You can view their credentials and make sure they're actually dentists and not just tooth pullers.

I also had yearly x-rays done in Rabat. Again, very nice. Modern. Just everything is in French! Except the dentists, since they were PC recommended, they all spoke English. and arabic.

I'm not particularly experienced with dentists in Morocco, but I know that in Iran it's a lot cheaper to go to the dentist (or doctor for that matter) and they do a very good job. But make sure you go to someone that your husband's family is familiar with. My mom goes to the dentist every time she comes to Iran. You shouldn't have any problems. And the money you save is really worth it! (granted you don't have to fly there just to go to the dentist).

i would re think that, depending on what needs to be done and (what if) you need follow up in case any problems arise? I personally would want to stay with my own dentist close to home if i had prob could phone and go there quickly

I'm sure your husband would go with you as well so that would mean 2 tickets to purchase. I am sure you can find a dentist that helps out people with not so good insurance to no insurance at all. I send my clients to a clinic that only charges $20.00 for patients and this is for a simple cleaning to having a root canel done.

NO!!! Sorry but the only way I would do it is if I had no other choice and if I were living there full time and had fully investigated my options. My husband used to have this same belief, but now that he's been here going to a dentist and found he has periodental disease as well as several fillings, he's realized that really the dentists here are better. Again if it was neccessity obviously we would go there but choice - no way. Also if for any reason

I were living there and needed major work done I would come back here for it.

A friend of my wife's is a dentist. She even cleaned my teeth once for free. Dunno her last name, her first name is Majda. She's in Rabat someplace. If I drove by it I could point it out.

Got a crown in Rabat in March 2008 and it came out in July 2008 when I bit into a piece of barbecued chicken on July 4th! For the record, it was a pretty tender piece of chicken!

Thanks everyone for your stories and advice, as i told my husband, as much as i would love not to spend over 500. on a crown and root canel- i think when we go to morocco it wouldn't be such a great idea for me to go to a dentist there. After all what if something happens after to the procedure and it could cost more than we had anticipated. I think we wil just save the money and get it done here.
