Yeah I have heard of that too, use them in - muffins or whatever - yeah well, I guess if you only used it once in a while that could be handy - but if you are using it every day - especially with vegetables - unless you have a pig farm (and therefore could feed it to them) there is NO WAY you could use all the pulp left over.

I mean like citrus, strawberries etc, not a big deal - not much left - but just imagine a carrot or a piece of celery - they leave A LOT of pulp !

That said, that's just me - and wasting food bugs me - however i'm sure if you do a search there are probably a gazillion recipes for the leftovers.

Since I asked the question, I started looking for recipes, because it hadn't occurred to me that people would actually make recipes for that (I'm so thick sometimes). Apparently, you can use celery pulp instead of cutting up celery for your stew and you can add some carrot to the broth to colour it and make it richer and more nutritious. Apparently there are a lot of sauces, soups and broths that can be altered to use the pulp and you can add a small amount of it back into the juice to increase your dietary fibre intake, as well. Then there are muffins, cookies, etc etc. I even found recipes for dog treats and cat treats and granola bars! Some people were saying that the fruit pulp went really well in oatmeal and other hot cereals in place of other flavourings.

I've never seen the pulp, so I don't know how small it gets, but I'm wondering if you couldn't rehydrate it a bit with some water and use it as an introductory baby food (obviously, you have to use whole foods as well, not just the pulp, since the pulp has some of the nutritional value removed, but when you're just introducing say, carrots?). I mean, they use strained peas and stuff, don't they?

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

couldn't you also compost the waste?

If you have a house of your own, yes, but if you're in an apartment building, it seems to be rare (at least in Kori's area) to have a compost heap/composter/whatever to deposit your organic wastes on. And really, if something's edible, it seems a pity to me to waste the nutrients that I could be eating.

As for the starter food idea, I personally wouldn't do that (but that's just me - again!) - if I were feeding mashed carrots to a baby, I wouldn't want to just use rehydrated (with water) stuff, while I drank all the good stuff.

umm, i'm not a big fan of juicers, can anyone tell??

Ok, exiting the juicer thread >>>>

Made a few things with my new juicer and wow, surprised on how great they do taste! The machine itself works great, very powerful motor and isn't overly loud. The one complaint many had of this juicer was that it is a tad high--15 inches. But doesnt take up much counter space, one just has to ensure they have the clearance space! And yes, it does waste a lot of the fruit/veggies! But the way I look at it, if it helps increase our intake of fruits/veggies, its a good thing! Easy to assemble and clean. 2 thumbs up!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
