No such thing as the woodshed anymore.

Too bad, when I was growing up life was much safer and you never heard of any kids doing things like this. I grew up in a rural area and everyone had guns. Heck, you would see regular people walking down the main street with a pistol in a holster. Do that these days and you will get shot

i remember my dad telling me how as a kid, he'd hitchhike with a .22 to go squirrel hunting. can you imagine the fiasco that would happen if someone tried that nowadays on a road in the usa?

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Would you pick up a stranger who was carrying a gun?

Your dad probably knew everyone who was likely to pick him up, that's the biggest difference between now and then not that people were spanked as children and knew their place. Seriously, if there was even one study produced that proved that a good spanking produced polite, happy and responsible adults everyone would be doing it.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

There was a time that schools offered target shooting after school. I know people that would bring a .22 target rifle on a school bus, keep it in their locker during the day. You just did not have people shooting each other like today.

How much do we blame the media for keeping a shooting the number one story for weeks on end.

Wasn't uncommon when I was a kid.

Wow. I learned to shoot when I was a kid with my dad's .22 rifle. Never killed anything, except a few coffee cans. It wasn't a matter of safety since he shot her on purpose. I don't know what to even think. Kids seem different today. I mean, I learned to drive when I was 8 years old and by 12 I was taking the car to run errands for my mom. I can't think to hand my niece my keys and say, "here, run to the store for me quick." Tragic.

I'd definitely say I'm in the "pro-firearm" camp; however, I'm more than a little disturbed by the fact a "youth model shotgun" even exists. Firearms are for responsible individuals. If a kid is going to use a gun, his parents damn well better instill a sense of responsibility and respect for the power that a gun can have.

Guns are not toys and they shouldn't be thought of as such. I'm not entirely sure an 11 year-old would be mature enough to handle a firearm (this kid certainly wasn't, but then again, he may have some underlying psychological issues), so I'd think waiting until mid-teens at the earliest would be a better decision.
