I agree that the strength our finaces have to summon is tremendous. Linh had a similar bout of homesickness/shock the first couple of weeks. It broke my heart to see her cry and not be able to do anything to "fix" it. We got through it and the experience definitely helped us grow as a couple as well as individuals.

Keep being supportive and help her plug into the local VN community. The best part of the journey (being together) is just starting!!

We will be fine together for sure. It is amazing how anyone can go through so much in such a short time.

She is very plugged into the VN community now. She is pretty much staying with her Aunt and Uncle until we marry tomorrow and they have with me tagging along introduced her to maybe hundreds already. (It seems) Everyone has been great so far except one time at a restaraunt a older guy had a problem with Trang being with me and was rude. Trang knew why and was OK with it.

She stayed up pretty much all day yesterday with a quick 30 minute nap while I was doing something. She is definately brighter now and the all day sun and great weather does help.

My fiancee arrived safely and everything is great. She is still having probs with the different time zones and falls asleep at odd times. I tried to get her to try American food twice and decided to not do it again for awhile. She definately likes the super Wal-marts and well stocked shelfs. She learned quckly to yell out "yeehaw" when the mood strikes.

It has been a hell of a journey.

Congratulations!

Thx for sharing your story with all of us, it helps to know what struggles our partners will or have gone through. I think having a loving husband like you, the VN. community, and relatives will be key in Trangs adjustment. Also the warm and humid weather you have in the summer( at least that is what I hear) will be more like VN. Living in Minnesota, I hope Hai Au will be able to come here in summer so she can adjust before the cold comes. Like Melrose Plant says, I think central heat will be a key to her survival!! To see my wife crying would be a hard one, maybe a stockpile of Kleenex is in order, for both of us!! I have no doubt that your love and your lives will blossom into everything you both dream of. The wedding has probably already happened so we will say CONGRATULATIONS!! now. I think you are right about VN. gals being tough, I know Hai Au will keep me hopping!! Please tell Trang "Welcome to America" for me. Like you said, What a journey!! God bless, take care, bye for now.

It is my honor to say what happen as many here have done before me and helped and I hope others after will to continue helping. Trang is doing much better but for sure has a long way to go. The weather is very much like VN during the summer here. At least we have air conditioning which is way more than she had. The crying is tough as there is nothing I can do to ease the pain except maybe hold her tighter. She is determined to continue. We had a civil ceremony last Thursday and are married now. We did this to get the paperwork started but the big wedding and party will be in about 2 months. We will have family coming in from all corners of the country here. It will be massive to say the least. I tried to protest that I can't afford such a big thing but was told to not worry about it as it will be taken care of and in fact I should make money from it. Well that is cool indeed. I will promise to tell her welcome later when she awakes again.

Trang and I have a big party that is being held in her honor so that my friends in this area can meet her today. It will be a huge crawfish boil and grilling and much booze and music. My best friend is even breaking out his guitar and I even have promised to maybe sing like the good old days. It should be interesting to see how it goes. Thanks again to everyone for the congrats and well wishes and the prayers. I have said a daily prayer to all myself and feel confident that we will make it through our journey with our loved ones.

Quick update. We went to a big crawfish boil and grill party at my best friends house last Saturday. It is in another area near Houston and spend much time there so many friends and people know me and asked to have the party to meet my new wife. It went well. Trang was so nervous but did come out and met all and tried the food. She liked it all but ate little of each. She was a real trooper for sure. I was sure a couple of people would say something very bad and even gave even money on one neighbor there but all behaved. The ladies loved her and the guys were jealous of me. Life is good when that happens.

Sunday I went to the gun range to take my best friends son and his friend and best friends GF son to shoot guns as they have been bugging me. Trang came along to watch. She did not like the guns at all and was not liking the noise even though I gave her ear protection. She did like that I was so good with the boys and very attentive to them and seeing them loving the time we spent there. I did say that next time her and I would go and shoot and she said no way. Hopefully after time that will change but just will not push her too hard on it.

Trang started her school today and just dropped her off. It is kinda cool to be married to a little school girl. She is doing so much in such a short time. I had bought her a new cell phone and added her to my account cheaply and even the phone was free. She has gotten a calling card cheap to Vietnam and nightly has called until late. Her and I chatted that eventually she needs to lessen her dependence but for now to enjoy and I do see the joy when she chats.

Hi, sounds like things are going good with you two. I'm sure the phone calls are an important part of the transition she is going through. They probably get less frequent as she builds her life here and is busy doing other things. I want to buy my wife a cheap laptop and webcam she can leave with her family when she moves here so they can communicate. So far, she is against spending the money. Using a webcam has been a real plus for us during our time apart so I think she will eventually warm to the idea. The gun subject might be an interesting thread. I have several and will have to bring up that subject before she gets here. I think guns are a pretty foreign subject to most VN. people so I am wondering what her reaction will be. Anyway, thanks for the update and please keep them coming. You and Trang take care, bye for now.

When I called from America I used these guys:

http://www.vnlisting.com/vnphones/rates.php

When you call the access number it recognizes your number and lets you know how many minutes you have, eliminating the need to enter codes. Maybe you can set her cell up with an account.
