Yesterday was very hot and I waited to take the trash out to the dumpster until it was dark... BAD IDEA. When I came back inside I discovered that the mosquitos had had a field day on my ankles - I've got TWENTY TWO mosquito bites on my right ankle and shin, and six on the left! Talk about itchy... anyone got any suggestions for how to kill the itch so I don't scratch myself raw? And for bug repellants that really work?

same stuff that works for chiggers works on skeeters....i've found a dab of menthol listerine helps for a while.

good bug repellant is deep woods off. and limit your activity outside between dusk till dawn. as skeeters are less active during the heat of the day, do things during daylight hours if you can.

i suggest you don't do that again, with west nile virus being an issue. get a bug zapper, that's good entertainment too

I got some Off! with deet the other week since we get a lot of mosquito's come out in the evening where I am. Seems to have worked so far.

Not really sure what to recommend for the itching, though. Maybe a body lotion with Aloe? That's supposed to be soothing.

I have always used good old fashion vineger for mossie bites, nothing has ever worked any better for me, it stings a little bit when u dab it on but only for a second

Just scratch the top of the mossie bite then apply

put it on the bites.. it will suck out the itch.

Hmm..why is everyone so happy to put a pesticide on their skin? Avon Skin so Soft range will work wonders without the nasty, and very dangerous deet ingredient. The chances of getting west nile are far lower than the chances of getting sick from deet.

If the bites are really bad I find an ice pack helps a lot.

I'm not keen on spraying myself with pesticide either... but it seems that if I'm going to venture out of the apartment at dusk or later I'm going to HAVE to or I'll be eaten alive! Apparantly I have particularly delectable ankles :(

Mine are the same - I can't go anywhere in the evening without getting bitten. But, I don't use deet, and use the Avon stuff with no problems. Bite free all summer

I use a DEET free product called Bioganic "Shoobug". You need to reapply it every 2 to 3 hours but it is a spritzer applicant and easy to use. It is made from plant products and smells like wintergreen. It is available at pharmacies or on line at: www.bioganic.com. I have found it quite useful.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
