well, I would bring a letter from the bank. Just in case. The letter I had just showed the current balance. With tax transcripts you just show his income. With the letter from the bank they can see how much of the money he is saving and using. I would just do it and prefer having a little bit more than what might really be needed.

The more you can give them the better. So much depends on how many people the man supports. Does he have other assets? Stocks? Bonds? Real Estate?

If you are planning to rely 100% on his income alone, then I think that the tax documents which show the income he claims to receive documents that. Checking Account statements if the continuous balance is high would show his liquid assets, but pretty much just shows how he spends his $. The 70K comes in, the 70K goes out... But if the balance over a year's worth of statements is $100,000 that's different and would show he is saving $ not just spending. (Not sure why he woudn't have both types of accounts checking and saving, if he did have a big balance...)

I don't think one month's checking account statement is worth sending. It is too short a time period to help show anything that could be relied upon.

If he supports himself only.. and is sponsering you only. The tax statements show he makes more than 125% of the poverty level income for 2 people. If he has a wife, and supports your fiancee, etc. that's a different story. Better check to see how much he has to earn to cover all of you.
