Hello Everyone! I was checking on my Embassy /caracas requirements and they say the following:

"Marriage, Divorce, and Death Certificates: An original and photocopy of the applicant’s current and previous marriage certificates are required, even where marriage is not the basis for the immigrant visa petition. In addition, proof of the termination of any previous marriage must also be submitted (e.g., death certificate, final decrees of divorce or annulment). Note that certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (“MRE”) of these civil documents is not required unless specifically requested by the consular officer."

The Applicant is me, and I have never been married before, but my fiance is divorced.... I am bringinf to my interview the Divorce Certificate .... I am not sure if I will also be needing the Marriage Certificate ...

Is somebody with the same situation????? thank you:)

Generally previous marriage certificates are used to track name changes for women but if the Consulate asks for it, bring it.

Bring it cos you never know.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Let me clarify something first.

Applicant: Foreign fiance(e) applying for visa, the one filling out the DS-156

Petitioner: US citizen who filed original petition

IF you are the APPLICANT, the foreign fiance(e), and you have never been married, it is NA. You do NOT have to bring the PETITIONERS marriage and divorce certificates to the interview. The US citizen provides the documents he/she needs to when they submit the I-129f. If you are the foreign fiance(e) and you have been married before, YES you need the original and copies (and translations if required) of any and all marriage and divorce certificates.

Some people suggest (and I did) bringing the entire I-129f file to the interview. You should not need it, we did not. They send the I-129f file to the cosulate so they should have all your fiance(e)'s documents when you get there. I did it as a "just in case"

Ok, Mia, I understand now. I should read all the posts before I answer.

Stop looking. You do not need your US citizen fiance's marriage certificate, his divorce certificate was filed with the I-129f but if you have a copy bring it along. Bring everything you have, you never know and you can carry it all right back with you.
