My sister in law just told me to add that you should hit all the hotels if you havent done so already.

She and her hubby moved to Dallas in early 2006 - it took her 3 months to find a job.

i'm with larry on this one. sounds awful but discrimination is reality.

do you have a rather 'thick' accent? your written english is great but how is your spoken english? i can't even imagine what it must be like down in texas for an immigrant!

best of luck to you!

Some places discriminates against immigrants period no matter where you from! Some other places dont hire you cause you dont have employment history in the US. I was a manager in Italy and I been turned down so many times here that I had to take a retail job. Even if the pay is not that much, its a start ! Try Walmart,Dillards,Target,Old Navy etc... And apply in person, online applications dont always get to the right person!

Good luck

heck, even I went to one interview and the person said to me "we weren't sure if you could speak English"

If they can't even figure a Canadian from Toronto can speak English, what must they think of someone from any other country?

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I don't know if you've thought ABOOT it, but Canadians don't really speak English... They have their own language, eh. Especially if they're Newfies.

You know what bugged me when I first came to the states - Americans pronounced O's in the middle of a sentence like an "a" so they say "sacks" instead of socks and "pats" instead of "pots". You don't notice it unless you are from somewhere else.

Dependent on your skills, i.e are you computer literate, by that I do not mean can you just use a computer. Are you fluent with word, powerpoint, publisher, excel, etc, get your C.V (Resume) done and take it to a recruitment agency and register or ask someone on here even to look at and critique for the US market. I have already done that and she (can't say who, would not be fair) gave me a "good resume" will be fine for the US market.

Monster.com is also a good place to start and they are very helpful when it comes to immigrants posting their c.v's in order to have them critiqued.

Temping is a good way to start, at least it will get you in front of companies and they will be given the opportunity to see what you can do. Plus a lot of temp assignments are Temp to Perm, so you never know

Good luck anyway

First off I wanna apologize that it took me so long to reply on your post but I was away from comp for a few days.Second I wanna thank all of ya for your responses and ideas.

Question that a whole lot of you were asking - Do I have a thick accent and if i can speak english lol - well I do speak english since I was 12 and now that I am overhere with (american last name) most people overhere in TX by my looks think im hispanic(thats all they know i guess lol) and when I start talking they think I am from New York(or east coast) so I dont think that is a problem especially not for a jobs like grocery store cashier I think my Italian friend might be right - fact that they are looking at employment history and fact that I dont have any overhere-HOW AM I EVER GONNA HAVE ONE IF NOONE WILL LET ME START THATS WHAT PUZZLES ME- or sometimes I am even getting a feeling that those hiring managers are trying to hook up plp they know with those jobs or something like that. There are jobs I just like I said keep getting turned down or not hearing from them at all.I have ever been at TX work force ever since i got here but job alerts on that side neither. And yes I was looking at hotels too several matter of fact because thats where I have most experience in.But ,Oh well, guess I dont have a choice really ,I do have to keep looking and hope that something will come up or at least that someone will tell me why I am being turned down.

But thank all of ya once again for kind words and your support >its comforting knowing I am not alone here - I already started thinking that it was something about the way look or something lol
