My wife left Romania on the k1 visa, which of course, expired recently, and we are in the middle of our AOS process.

She will go to Europe and she got her AP approved, and received through mail.

I know that to ENTER the USA you need the AP, which she has, and that's not the problem. However, when you go through passport control at a European airport, they always check for a visa to enter the USA (when you're a citizen of a country that requires a visa to enter usa, ie, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, etc). Thus, the big question is:

When leaving Europe, to return to the usa, does she need any visa, given that the k1 visa is a one time entry visa, and we're in the middle of the AOS process?

thanks in advance!

The Advance Parole is what she needs to show along with her passport. she will still need to complete the I-94 and the customs form. Your wife is no longer a K1 visa holder her status is AOS pending. so if asked that is what she needs to say. If she says she is a K1 holder then they will look for a valid K1 visa.
