Slum Dog Millionaire

I know the title of this movie is offensive to many people in India, but it is one of the best movies I've seen in years. The acting, location, cinematography, music--all of it--really makes this film phenomenal. It made us laugh and cry and cheer. We talked about the issues examined and whole experience itself for hours afterwards. Personally, I couldn't get some of the images out of my head.

If it's in a theatre near you, see it. For those who have doubts about love overcoming ANYTHING, Slum Dog might change your mind & heart.

A great movie.

I really don't have a solid idea how life goes in India but because of this movie it made me see the good and bad sides of the country.

I so love one part of the movie where Salim is bursting his human nature and just jumped into the $h*t.... :bonk::lol:

Slumdog is the most overated movie of this decade. If the academy honors it, it’s not because it’s a masterpiece but rather because they seem to have scant understanding of what a good ‘Indian’ movie is.

No western has ever come close to this one....and no western ever will.

its a typical indian movie - only a bit more realistic :D if it were an indian movie then jamal would have beat up all the villain and his brother :D

True. Very very true. It was a good movie, but to be honest all indian/bollywood films are basically the same and this one is not much different...just a bit more relative to reality.....but still, a typical indian film. I'm sure if several other indian films were given the chance to be as widely publicized as this one everyone would be quite a lot more excited. For example, Baghban......representing what happens to almost all families around the world. A universally understandable and very touching film, if only it were in all English...

There are plenty of Indian/Bollywood films out there that deserve nominations....and awards. But this was just publicized quite a bit more than the average film made in India.

None the less, a very good film at that. But by Indian film standards...just a bit above the average, only because of the mainly English dialog and the more NRI type of cultural aspects here and there.

Only my opinion... ^_^

Why didn’t they give an Oscars to Lagaan? I can name few more...How about Swades? Maqbool? Lage raho munna bhai? Jodha Akbar? Rock On, Wednesday? Taare Zameen Par? Rang De Basanti? Omkara? Black Friday? Yuva? Pinjar? Dil Chahta hai? Company? Satya? the list goes on & on......

Like you said this was just publicized more & it came out at the rite time. Oh well, I didn't mind Slumdog that much but good lord that Dev patel is a horrible actor. He donnu sh|t about acting :help:

Btw, Bhagban was arite...just not my cup of tea....it was too melodramatic!

No western has ever come close to this one....and no western ever will.

Well imo melodrama goes hand in hand with indian films...dont you think? lol. But still, true that it is quite melodramatic, and possibly over-acted even. You are completely right about lagaan, taare zameen par, swades, Jodha Akbar, Rock on, Omkara, company, satya and yuva.....plus some others like, chak de india, dhoom2, black(AMAZING FILM), krrish(child films), and laga chunri pe daag........all very amazing indian films that deserve nominations and possibly even oscars!

Bollywood is better at what they do then even hollywood, but the only way they can prove that is to branch out more.......I mean already bollywood's main super starres Aishwarya Rai had starred in so many hollywood movies......and now pink panther 2....maybe if they branched a couple more actors out....signed/made more contracts with hollywood they would get the credit they truly deserve!

Arghh I hated Bhagban :P really not my type of movie.

Yes Slumdog is good, but you guys ought to see some really good Indian movies. I think with realistic cinema I loved Chandini Bar and it showed more of realism than Slumdog. Slumdog was pretty much of a masala movie, I did enjoy it but it wasn't something that moved me.
