We did. In our case we chose K3 to minimize time apart. It was a pretty standard case, we found the Jakarta embassy to be pretty quick on processing the approved package and very responsive to questions (email and phone) about our particular case.

Some issues that came up:

Visitor visa while your petition is being processed: From the Jakarta embassy you can try, it's about $130 I think, but my impression with that embassy is that you're SOL. When they see the word "married" they summarily deny ugh. There was no penalty to our case because we tried though.

Name change. If you want to do it, do it early. Your wife can get her name changed in her passport (page 4 I believe) for about $30 at the immigration office in Jakarta

We did not do the name change before we filed. I filed in her married name, but documents are issued by name on passport. The embassy picked it up from the passport even though the package was issued from the NVC in the maiden name. The embassy issued the visa in the married name. Subsequently, everything else, green card, license, SS card, passport, are now all in married name.

K3 Shortcuts (Jakarta embassy, not all embassies do this). The embassy will email your packet III anytime you ask for it. Your wife can get her medical done early. We waited about 4 1/2 months, did the medical, the results were at the embassy when the approval came through 6 weeks later. It saved the amount of time that it would have for the embassy to get the approval, send the packet III, wait for results, and schedule the interview. In our case, everything was done including document review before the NVC sent the package. So, they immediately scheduled the interview, 2 weeks after they got the NVC package.

The CR1 visa is done in the US. It takes about 4 weeks or so longer than the K3, but after approval your wife will receive her green card / SS card soon after US arrival. It saves the pain of adjusting status and costs a few hundred dollars less.

Just trying to see if I can relate on cetain issues with the Jakarta, Indonesia, US embassy.

i don't get it.

Well sadly im not on my honeymoon...my wife is in the bandung hospital in Indonesia with a high fever and apendix infection in intensive care...its painful to be so far away from her and see her so ill. she also got a diease from the tap water that was giving her trouble to breath and now she is doing a little better with the antibotics. Thank you for your process example...sounds very helpful. We are looking for any help with the process. I saw you message and brought a tear to my eye knowing people care to spend the time to help us out. This whole process can be stressful but I have many patience from God and I put it into practice everyday. Sorry I might sound a little personal, I am just hurting seeing my wife so ill and apprechate any prayers...

That's terrible, and please forgive me for appearing to make light of your situation. We wish the best for both of you.

We got married in Indonesia. We filed K3 and our case passed through the Jakarta embassy.

At the time we filed the K3 visa path was the quickest way to be together by about 2 months. Since we filed - we have noticed that the CR1 (immigrant visa) path is almost as quick and certainly a lot less painful, as an immigrant visaholder does not have to adjust status like a K3 visaholder (who can only legaly enter the US after which there is a whole new exciting set of immigration forms that have to be filled out) A CR1 visaholder gets their green card and SS card in the mail very quickly, a couple weeks after US entry. This allows banking, drivers license, and other incorporation into day-to-day life in the US to go a lot smoother and quicker.

Please PM if there is anything we can do to help you. Good luck on your journey.
