Understandable. Unfortunately, you'd be an illegal immigrant at this point if you were to stay. You could stay and try to find under the table work but you'd never have health benefits or the proper documentation to get a driver's license. That would be a tough situation to be in, even though the one you are in now I'm sure is awful enough.

Best of luck, darling.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

All I can say is don't try to solve everything at once today, but things will work themselves out to their natural conclusion, which may or may not be to your liking. The saying doors open just as door close can be a way new way of looking at things

Just for the sake of consideration - who says you need to return to the same town you're from? Does anything prevent you from moving to a different province and starting fresh? Not trying to complicate things or make you more upset. Treble is right, you would be illegal here and what kind of life would that be for you?

I can understand your frustration; but believe me sweetie, you do not want to break US law and put your entire future in jeopardy.

Any chances of reconciliation with the hubby?? :(

Take it in pieces, you're finding out the options and that's enough for today. Sitting on a decision brings clarity...always....you may see something differently 24 or 48 or 72 hours from now..... You want to whatever you decide the proper legal way I expect and that may govern some of the choices you have to make.

Yes as everyone mentioned you will have to return to Canada as you have no status to be valid here at all. You will not be able to work or anything and if found you could be deported.

Now if you had already been on your Green Card and divorced then there are certain circumstances before you remove the conditions (2 years after marriage) that could keep you here in the US. If those certain circumstances don't pertain to the person, even Green Card holders (the ones on the Conditional Green Card) would also have to move back to Canada as well.

Unfortunatly you and many others aren't in the safe zone until the conditional Green Card has been removed and you get the 10 year card...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

So sorry to hear that Cheryl (F)

While you're taking some time to mull over your options, this might give you both a chance to bring clarity to the situation.

In the meantime, go to see an Attorney for a free consultation about your options. Ask whether an annulment is possible. There are specific legal requirements that have to be met, and length of time that you've been married is not necessarily one of them. Then discuss what would be required if you sought a divorce.

Then go home and discuss these with your husband. Once the reality of the situation of you actually leaving sets in, it just might open the door for a new conversation.

Sorry. :(

I'm so sorry to here this Cheryl. While I know you're hurting, there are many options that may be available for you if you move back to Canada. There certainly isn't any here in the US, as have been stated. We could all rally around and offer you some advise about where to move back in Canada, maybe even some leads insofar as living arrangments or jobs if we knew where you wanted to live. Let us know how else we can help you. We care. (F)
