Social Security is insurance. How many investments pay out in the event of a disability or death, regardless of how much you paid into it? Only insurance works that way. If the Right Wingers would stop comparing SS to an investment, they could fully appreciate it's worth.

SS isn't insurance unless your kids are paying for your insurance which is how SS has worked since the 70s. You can buy private insurance you know.

Liberals usually fail to grasp the idea that incremental income is generated by greater production or lower cost to produce. SS does nothing to contribute to the capital pool which businesses draw from increase output and justify increases in pay for workers. If you rob Peter to pay Paul, that may some sort of twisted justice but it does nothing to grow the economy.

Why not just give the government your entire income with the promise you'll get some money back if you can show a just reason? Imagine how secure we would all feel!

It's worked beautifully so far and no matter what you want to call it, it is an insurance and not an investment. Nothing in the private sector could ever out perform what SS has done and will continue to do.

You can invest your Roth money in equities if you wish. I failed to explain anything? Not my job. Do your own damn homework.

You painted yourself into a corner and want me to clear a path for you? I can't explain your thinking when you can't either.

You said an IRA was a stable alternative to stocks.

I told you that made no sense since an IRA could be invested in stocks.

You're a fvcking idiot.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Tell us how you really feel.

I am wondering if you need to be suspended in order to get some stuff done around the house this weekend. Perhaps this is even your wife using your account to get you suspended so you will get that list started!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You are more than a little confused. Not all IRA are stock based nor did I recommend an IRA based on the stock market.

"How do Roth IRAs make money? In the same way that traditional IRAs do. You deposit a portion of your income into this account, up to a maximum amount that varies from year to year and according to your age.

The account trustee, acting on your behalf, may use the money to buy stock, certificates of deposit, mutual funds, real estate, bonds or other options allowed by law. The way that the IRA makes money depends on the investment type."

You need a time out again. Consider yourself reported.
