Hi,

I will be travelling out of the country this April, and I am assuming I couldn't still get my GC before my trip. I have my letter of extension with me. My question is, do I need to get a stamp on my passport for the extension? or just presenting the letter enough?

Has anybody got the experience of going out of the country with their GC pending, and what did you present at the immigration? I don't want any hassles later on, so I just wanted to be sure what would be the best thing to do.

Your inputs are very much appreciated. Thanks! :)

Hi melgre62,

That means you just have to present the original copy of your NOA and expired GC, right? The reason I am concern about this is that because I have also heard many having their passport stamp for the 1-year extension.

I was just thinking if the passport stamp is really required.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the advices. I really appreciate it.

Well actually I have been thinking about this issue. What would happen if USCIS sends you an RFE and, for whatever reason, you do not receive the letter (and no update on the website) so off you go on your trip. The RFE expires and they deny your I751 on those grounds. Then you fly back to the US while all of this is unknown to you.

Would you be allowed back in in that situation??

Hi angelnoah,

You need your original copy of NOA, expired green card and passport. NOA clearly states that "during the one-year extension you are authorized employment and travel". Some cases have not received their NOA's or the 1 year extension of greencard, so they need to get the stamp for travel.

If you're asking my opinion, then, I think it's just common sense. You don't want to go off your trip with an expired GC, right? If you're travelling and your GC is still valid, there should be no problem. Remember, you are applying 3 months ahead before your GC expires. Within those dates, there should still no problem.

If you receive an RFE, and your GC is expired, with no letter of extension, and you are travelling out of the country, you need to get an INFOPASS and get your passport stamped.

Not sure if I covered all what you meant, but I guess, before going for a trip, ad you are not sure of everything, get INFOPASS! :)

Don't worry.

Travel is not an issue.

Tomorrow I'll be leaving the US for the fourth time in 2 months, all with expired GC and extension letter.

No question ever asked.
