Why would a chimpanzee attack a human?

I have nothing constructive to say about this article beyond what's already been said. However:

A DANGEROUS COUSIN: This chimp from the Knoxville Zoo bears its teeth to visitors, who observe from behind glass. Chimpanzees have been known to bite off fingers from behind bars.

This bothers me :)

What do these idiots expect? Oh, I can't believe my pet lion ate my two children.

I'm still in disbelief of a chimp's strength. I'd love to see a pro-wrestler go against a full size chimpanzee (minus the sharp teeth).

the attachment points on the bone for the ligaments are differently leveraged, so the muscle is much more effectively used in a chimp arm.

i would say a 12 gauge with slugs or a rifle with minimum of 35 caliber and 2500 foot pounds if taken at close range. 458 socom would be just about ideal.

If it was a gorilla, my money would be on the gorilla.

Mine too....those beasts weigh several hundred pounds. But from what I've read, a 90 lb. chimp can hold off 2 men easily. Their arm strength is incredible.

Not to mention their jaw strength.

And they're dirty fighters....apparently they go after the face, hands and testicles. There was the guy awhile back who was attacked - the chimp ripped of his nose, bit off most of his fingers and ripped off his testicles. Damn.

That was the guy in Covina - he was attacked by two chimps as I recall. Lucky to be alive.

I can't understand how it can be legal to own an animal like that as a pet - it really shouldn't be.

Before getting a wild-animal pet, people should get ahold of a copy of Daniel Pratt Mannix' All Creatures Great And Small (by coincidence only, title is identical to one by James Herriot) and read it carefully.

Mannix details being wounded by several of his (or in one case, his daughter's) wild-animal pets (through bites, scratches, or gripping***).

***by bald and golden eagles.

Keeping a chimp is not as portrayed in movies (Bedtime For Bonzo an example) or TV (Me And The Chimp).

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The truth is, Tarzan was a stock broker on Wall Street...and he took the elevator...not even the stairs.
