Ok I don't care if you are Canadian or not - just wanted this left in the Canada forum and not moved to your new life in America or somewhere

Anyhoo, I am thinking we need a Toaster Oven or small Convection oven because I am tired of firing up our huge oven for baking two tiny things.

Anyone have a great one of either of these? Story to share? Your suggestions?

I would like something that I could say, cook a pie in or slow cook meat (i'm not keen on slow cookers - I want something more versatile).

Thanks!

Love them. They are so easy to use and do the trick for small items that need reheating. I have never used it to cook something fresh though, that would take a long time... so I guess if you had time to spare, I'd say it'd be awesome!

I used to have a Black & Decker InfraWave oven (didn't have room to take it with me) but I loved it. It works like a convection oven as well as a microwave. It cooks things even better than the normal oven. Best yet, it uses like 1/5 the electricity to run.

Its small, so not practical if you're cooking for more than 2-3 people, but it reheats food well, makes pizza great, and cooks frozen food in the same amount of time as a regular oven.

Loved that thing!

I have a kitchen aid one in red and I love it. It works well and like cat says works better than a regular oven imo.

Veeewwy interesting MrsCat - I hadn't considered an infrawave!

You have the infrawave too sprailenes?

I've been looking at them now and most people seem to love them!

Oh no, just a regular toaster oven by kitchen aid, sorry for the mix up.

I just meant it seems to work better than my regular oven is all. :P

Ahh ok, so what are you guys cooking in there, do you ever slow roast something - bake cookies, pies? I'm sure you can probably do all these things in either, i'm just wondering how you find toaster oven/infrawave cooking vs regular oven, or is there really not a lot of difference?

I have never owned a toaster oven, is that obvious? :hehe:

Mostly just broil things, pogos, sausages, chicken its not very big. I just like it because it uses less power, doesn't take quite as long to cook in and all that jazz.

I want to get one with a rotisserie. Omg *drool*

POGOS!! I say pogos and no one knows what I mean here: "You mean corn dogs?" haha I've always called them pogos!

In my old apt, I had a nice toaster oven which is great when you live alone. To make a small pizza or few fries I don't want to use my oven. But here, unfortunately we're short on counter space. I have a regular toaster, coffee maker, a few other things on there and I need room to prepare food too. So there is no space for a toaster oven here which sucks.

The largest thing I ever cooked in the infrawave was a chicken. It turned out really well actually. Nice and juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. I would always reheat my pizza in there. Microwave makes them too soggy, and its a lot of electricity to start the oven for 1-2 slices.

I used to have a regular toaster oven too. I loved that thing too, but the infrawave was faster and didn't dry things out as much. Although mine was a cheapo brand and not a kitchen aid. I have a feeling the kitchen-aid toaster oven is great.

If I was warming up frozen appetizers, I usually used the infrared. I baked a lasagna in there once. I used the non-cook ahead of time noodles. That didn't turn out so well. The noodles were a little hard.

I baked fish in there all the time. Cooked french fries. Those cook way faster than in the regular oven!

Never made cookies or anything. Probably way too small and take too long to cook a few batches.

I have never baked cookies in there but I sometimes I bake my chicken and stuff in there... or I use it for warming up corn dogs, or for french fries etc... I think it works ok...

supposedly you can fit a 12 inch pizza in it but I have never tried it....
