This cop was so lame, I absolutely would file a complaint.

Anyone who would use his badge to hassle someone over a clear political point would or has abused this power before and it needs to be in his records.

No president was Savaged as badly as Bush was by the left. We now have a new and lower threshold on Civility shown to our President.

This guys bumper sign was nothing compared to whats to come, so get used to it.

Likening a black person to an ape or monkey is a well known racist stereotype - a bit of of not ###### sherlock there I think.

Even if that's not the intended meaning it doesn't change the underlying implication - hence the response to that chimp cartoon the other day.

There's no established racial subtext in likening a white guy to an ape. If we're arguing double standards perhaps we should be asking why the stereotype is indelibly associated with blacks and not whites.

As I say my understanding was that law enforcement took even a sniff of something that hinted at "kill the president" extremely seriously, though I've only ever heard anecdotes to this effect.

Obviously getting pulled over for displaying a bumper sticker is frivolous and a world away from any sort of criminal/terrorist conspiracy against the head of state.

I think you're being (just a little) melodramatic.

This was bound to happen after Bush was roundly attacked for everything and a new guy comes along widely heralded as the next messiah. Obama didn't start the attacks on Bush but he'll reap what was sown for the last administration. He'd better grow a thicker hide because he's going get a lot more detractors than Hannity he'll have to publicly challenge.

The idea that some double standard exists because a racial subtext is involved in comparing a black man to an ape that doesn't come into play when applied to a white man - is moronic. The "real" double standard is that the disparity of meaning exists to begin with.

In fact the only way in which this spurious outrage of "well everyone would be outraged if it we slapped a photo of Obama next to a chimp" makes sense is if one chooses to deny the established context.

In other words to be wilfully naive.

As it is, comparing anyone to a chimp isn't exactly the height of humour or wit, so quite why someone would want to do this as "reciprocity" is beyond me.

Like the military that fight overseas for your right to protest in freedom in your own country, you should honor the Officers who put in relatively long hours at relatively low pay to keep you relatively safe in your own country. It's no different. A bit of common decency is required here. Everything is relative to the situation at-hand. Yes, this guy clearly wasn't great at his job, but do we chastise the entire military for one blue-on-blue encounter, for kicking in the wrong door in downtown Baghdad? No is the answer, we don't, as mistakes happen. From first-hand experience, I can tell you it isn't always what it looks like on paper, he may have been pulling him for another offense and the guy got mouthy, so he decided to try and get more ammo to teach him a lesson of respect. I feel that one has a right to express their opinion, but please, only if it's educated does anyone else really care...

policemen are not underpaid, they work hours no different from nurses, and they are in no way in the same class as our national military when it comes to voluntary risk taking. police work is like number 50 on the list of dangerous occupations, with offshore fishermen (much harder work and crazier hours) at like 100 times as much risk and for lower pay, construction workers, lumbermen, active military, etc, all 20-50 times as likely to experience occupational injury or fatality. that issue has been covered a hundred times, so let's not go there...

as for somebody kicking in the wrong door in baghdad, well it's closer than that, my friend:

hundreds of times cops have bashed in the wrong door and shot little old ladies sitting in their chairs, or men wakened naked in their beds in the middle of the night. even better are the times they bash in the wrong doors and make naked women remain unclothed for hours while dozens of people ransack their house and make comments about the size of their breasts. (don't make me pull the links - i can)

as for your first hand experience related to cops pulling someone for some other offense, and then "teaching them a lesson" after the motorist "gets mouthy", if a man doesn't have enough self restraint to enforce law uniformly and fairly, no matter how polite or impolite the circumstances, then he shouldn't be wearing a badge. "teach him a lesson of respect"? you've gotta be kidding, or a complete moron. this kind of thinking is what has caused people to shun policemen since the 60's, when they first realised that they had civil rights, and a bunch of bully cops didn't like acknowledging what the law actually says, and respecting the limits of their own office.

you have a right to express your opinion, and i have a right to say you talk like a bluecoated thug. somebody should warn the broad you are trying to import and marry that you'll prolly "teach her a lesson of respect" whenever she "gets mouthy". hopefully your too fat and old to be able to do it. no wonder you have to buy one from overseas.
