My fiance and I have applied for the K-1 fiance visa and I'm just learning that they perform a drug test. He smoked weed recently but it will be over a month until the test will take place. How long until the drug is out of his system and how far back is the test for? Please help I'm so worried!

This could be a question for him at the interview too  'Do you do drugs?'

We already talked about that, and from what I hear, if he wants to get accepted he needs to say 'no'.

But then he would be lying....there lies the problem

But if he doesn't lie, he'll get banned for 3 years. I just read that they only do a drug test if you show physical or mental signs of substance abuse. Anyone know if this is true?

I know you weren't asking for a morality lesson so I'll just answer your question. From what I've heard, the time frame is about 6 weeks. But that's usually for people whom are moderate to heavy smokers. Moderate could mean 4-5 times a week and heavy is pretty much an everyday smoker. If his smoking is sporadic then a couple of weeks should be enough time to flush out the THC. A month is much better. But just in case, he can take those detox kits. They shouldn't be too hard to find.

Oh and one more thing. When he gets to the "do you do drugs" question...**

I was reading on another site that they grill you for the answer and they threaten that they have tests that can prove any drugs you've done since you were born! This scares me to death! I don't know what I'd do if he got banned.

He's doing his medical exam in London, has anyone gone to the exam there and been tested for drugs? Did they ask a lot of questions?

We were planning on just saying no but now I'm wondering if that's really the right decision.

#######? We do not advocate lying as part of the visa process. It is against VJ's Terms of Service.

Actions have consequences.

That is ridiculously false. Educate yourself, but don't lie. Here's a start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_testing

Probably planning on telling a lie and posting that intent on a message board was not the right decision in the first place.

Thank you for that, it makes me feel a little better. I don't think they even do a hair test. I am against lying but I have read so many stories that people who admit to doing it once get banned, and I can't stand being away from my fiance 2 months let alone 3 years.

Are they going to look this up? You're scaring me.

I am not here to tell you to lie to the medical staff or the consular officer.

Like I said, actions (i.e. doing drugs) have consequences. Seriously.

I'm not stupid and I know that. He's only done it once and he was just hanging out with a friend. I can't live without him for 3 years.

i think they go by what you look like when you go for the medical.. they just gave me a quick look over.. raise your arms lets see this that.. and that was it.. i asked if they needed to do a urine test they said no... they dont give you a hard time...

i wouldnt suggest lying but if he only did it the one time.. then id say no because its not like you "do it all the time"

Well if they stereotype people(which I do not think is okay) then he should be okay. Good looking white boy aged 25. Racism sucks, but there are a lot of ignorant people.

and he most deffinantly doesn't do it all the time. It was once or twice. I don't want to be punished and be separated for 3 years because of a puff or two.

If you have time can you explain how your medical went? Questions they asked? I'm sure they did the blood test and x-rays.
