Well, I know my husband has pictures of me and the kids in his wallet. And his first response will be of genuine love, so I'm not worried about this. But I don't know if I should warn him before his interview, or just let him answer his normal way and normal responses, as I know he can do good. But if I tell him ahead of time, maybe he might get nervous and then not do as well.

The good thing about my husband, when we first met 2 years ago online, he spoke english, but not well. Now, he can speak better than most americans! So maybe they would notice this about him, and also, I have bought him so many clothes from USA, he dresses like American and stands out really from the other people in Alexandria.

I don't know what to expect, but I need a reality check. I'm thinking he's gonna interview on the 26th and then be here on the 30th. It doesn't happen that way?

I don't wanna pee in your cornflakes or anything, but the fact that your husband wears American clothes shouldn't make too much of a diff to a CO...at least imo.

In fact, TO ME (key words here) it may work against him...he could be seen as embracing America too much... if you wear the clothes and speak real well, how conveniently wonderful that he just so happened to fall in love with an American. Not that that's what I'm implying, mind you.....I'm just sayin from a cynical POV, that I can't see the fact that he wears US clothes as being of any significant help at all. It's not like 'hey I wear Tommy Hilfiger, gimme a visa!'

Good luck and v. interesting topic!

So are you saying that when he goes for his interview next month, that the officer will ask him questions about if he loves his wife? Or the children? I think they asked those questions in the initial approval to get married in Egypt stuff. So after they approved our marriage, now they are gonna ask if it's love or not?

They didn't even ask ANYTHING about me at my fiances interview....it was all about my kids. Oh....she did look at me with a crazy look and say "Why would you want to marry her, she has 2 kids?" If she could have only read my mind when she said that! I guess it depends on who does the interview on what questions are asked. I might as well have been invisible that day.

My husband wore a suit and tie and carried a briefcase to his interview in Cairo. Western style businessware isn't all too uncommon there, especially among the upper middle/upper classes.

Just make sure he wears something professional. My husband saw too many people show up for their interviews in jeans and t shirts with dark sunglasses on, wanting to look oh so cool. The COs definately looked differently on those people from those who wore business clothes.

Also something I noticed when I went to Morocco is that most of the men I saw were older married to younger women. I wonder if the opposite is a red flag because it is not common there.

I think that's the larger scope in the CO's mind... because if a woman is much older, divorced, or has children.. if she is an arab or a muslim, it is much much much more difficult for her to find a husband, especially a younger one.

Wow...popular post. And it seems everyone has their opinions. Yodrak seems to think that all younger men married their older wives for a visa, and that we are all either fat, ugly, social outcasts, or all three. And that we have no opportunity to marry a US man.

I hate to burst your bubble Yodrak, but I am older than my husband. I am neither fat, ugly, or a social outcast. I divorced my husband 15 years ago and I have had a blast dating many men....all younger, from the US. So believing that these men choose us for our vulnerabilities and insecurities is hog wash.

Now, I am not saying it doesn't happen, because it does. All I am saying is that you can't group everyone together because it isn't what you would select. which is also what the consulates should do.

To the OP, you need to plan for a tough interview. These consulates are trained to spot fraud, and age difference is one of the flags they are looking for. The consulate is there to do their job, and if they see something that is out of the ordinary they really need to scrutinize the application. The problem isn't that the applications are scrutinized...they should be. The problem lies with consulates that don't take the time to scrutinize the petition, but rather deny based on their own personal beliefs. Casablanca may be considered one of the high fraud contries, but they are also known for having a consulate that doesn't bother to do their job properly. And when they say to you that age isn't a factor, they are lying. I know of a woman that had her petition sent back to the USCIS for possible revocation. When she received her NOIR it stated clearly that they questioned the validity because of the age difference.

I can't say much about Egypt, I don't know what they are like. But I wouldn't leave to chance your husband answering the questions on his own. They are going to quiz him on things that you never expected. They usually ask about dates. How is your husband on dates in English? Mine had a real hard time. Not because he didn't know the dates, but rather he gets it mixed up in English. You really figure out all of your red flags and be prepared to explain them all. Don't take anything for granted, don't be foolish enough to think that true love always wins out...it doesn't.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
