Thank god it's all done and we're approved! yay! The interviewer was so nice and she is a Pinay. She just asked us typical questions a couple should know. Like date of marriage, how we met, where we stayed, if he met my parents etc.. etc.. It went smoothly as if we were just having a normal conversation.

The interview was in San Francisco 02/17. It was raining so hard and we couldn't find a place to park along the road. Oh well... just happy that it's all done. I also got my EAD card that same day but I don't think it matters now.

Then, we went to Phil consulate since its just near from the Immigration office to ammend my passport (change it to my married name). So, went there but they are telling me to go back the next day which is impossible because my husband has to work. My husband and I are planning to go to the Philippines sometime in May.

Do you think it will have a conflict or problems if my green card name is on my married name and my passport is on my single name? Should i just bring my marriage certificate? because if i would have a problem... I will just wait for my green card to arrive then apply a state ID and driver's license then send off my passport to the Phil Consulate in San Francisco... it says on the website you can send it (not really sure though).

I could use some advice here. Thank you so much!

There may be issues if you have different names in your GC and passport. My didn't change her name in green card just to avoid this confusion. She change her name in every other id though.

Since you plan to go to the Philippine in, I strongly suggest that you apply for a renewal passport asap as it takes six weeks to process. I understand that it will be sent to the Philippines as the consulates here do not prepare passports. Also, since it will be the machine readable type, you have to appear personally a the consulate. See the link for more info.

do i need to apply for renewal of passport even though mine will expire on 2012?

No. But since your greencard has your married name, you may have problems during reentry to the US.

Thanks for the info.. I guess i have to go there again and get a new passport instead of ammending it. Will need to wait for state ID so i will have ID just in case I don't have a passport for 6 weeks.

My passport is not yet amended, I have my vacation a few weeks ago (Jan.20 to Feb.9), I spent there almost 3 weeks. There is no problem in your passport just bring your marriage certificate and green card. when i arrived at my port of entry at Chicago last week,I present my marriage certificate, green card and passport. The woman in charge asked me how long i stayed in the Phils?, thats the only questions... Dont worry, if you will travel if your passport still in your maiden name..many filipina went back to the Phils they dont have any problems...I asked opinion here in VJ first before i decided to buy my ticket. Use the name in your passport when buying your ticket not the name in your green card.

I had my vacation a few weeks ago. no problems with re entry into the USA. passport not yet amended.

Yep, just got back from the RP on Monday, and the immigration officer didn't even ask for the marriage certificate. Just looked at the green card.

You will not have any issues if your passport is in your maiden name and your Greencard is in your married name. You just need to carry your marriage certificate. Most POE will only ask for your greencard.

Not true, US POE's deal with this sitaution constantly... they know about it and will handle it accordingly.

YMMV

Not all the time that's why I mentioned you may have problems. And updating your passport ensures any further problems. It's a small price to pay.

Nope,,if your green card is in ur married name just use your passport name when you purchase the ticket. Also if you still have time you can ammend your passport. I went to PI with my passport ammended but even if you don't as long as you have ur marriage certificate with you..then you'll be fine but better if you have it ammended first.
