its sad to see people who live on the streets here...everytime i see homeless people here i feel sorry for them..it makes me think maybe if they are in the pi they wont be homeless but instead they would be able to have even a small house to live..

its not easy to live here if you dont have a job or if you dont earn enough to pay for everything or even buy food..i see people who collect cans in garbage cans and sell them for 50 cents each can...and some of them are filipino..maybe people in the pi are thinking wow you are now in usa...but not knowing they just collect cans here..i know there are also people who dont want to live in a house or have a job because they dont want to spend money.

now i understand the reason why the embassy wants the petitioner to meet the poverty guideline coz living here in usa is not as easy living in pi.

and oh my god..when me and my husband went to a store..we saw a bracelet that cost 4 dollars here but in the pi its only 10pesos..just an example.

yeah it is really crazy. there are so many homeless people. my sister and I really have a soft heart for them. we always try to bring our "adopted" homeless man food. sometimes you just gotta take the time to talk to them and behind every face, there is a story.

yeah in the Philippines, people really think that just cause you're from the US, you're rich cause you earn dollars. sometimes they forget that the things that we buy here are in dollars too not in pesos. :(

Most of those homeless choose to beg rather than work.

They want money to buy alcholol or drugs

They work in groups sometimes, and will get a wheelchair and share it to get sympathy.

I have asked a few of the so called "Beggers" if they wanted to work the day for me doing manual labor, Guess what they declined.

Don't pay too much attention to these so called beggers, some of them make more than a working person.

Yes it is true life here is not easy you can make a small house along the road or along the river or anywhere like what people did in the Phils. there are many people in the Phils. living in the called squatter area but here you can't do it. I saw a old couple live the bridge near to our home.

I felt very sad when i was waiting my husband to pick me after my work, bec. i dont have a ride. I wait at walmart here in Asheville, NC, for about 3 to 4 hours bec he is working also 2nd shift on his full time job. I saw a young couple bringing their baby. They are trap and caught in the door by not paying all the groceries in their cart like sandwiches, butter etc..and the Police arrived about 15 mins after and went to the room where they are hold.

I saw also an old dirty man who are trap in the door before living at walmart. about 5 to 6 items on his cart he didnt pay at the counter, all are groceries. that time i was waiting my husband in the counter. I said to my husband will try to see if the man still there outside so that we will buy the groceries for him.

My husband work 3 jobs, 1 full time and 2 part time jobs but sometimes is not enough to pay our bills, mortgage, loans. especially he become a victim when he trade- in the car and the compay got close and dont pay his car. he can't do anything. he is paying to that car not on his hand anymore he can't locate where is it now.DMV wont help him locate where is the car now.The insurance of that company is not enough to pay all their victims...it is very sad. That's the first biggest problem we encountered in our marriage. second paying my medical bills after the deduction of our medical insurance.

Last month i visited Cebu, Phils. when people asked about here. I told them life is not easy there, same as here in the Phils. you should work hard in order to earn money.

there are a lot of people scamming like they are homeless. for example when i was living in Tennessee there is a guy that begs at the freeway ramp every day, dressed in terrible clothes and one day i saw him getting into his car at the parking lot. A caddy, and i said why you begging if you have a car like that and he said how you think i got it and he was laughing.

I am in SOuth Carolina but never seen a beggar yet the same as what other posters said. It would break my heart if I will do one day. I agree that living here in the US isn't easy, we have to work real hard, pay loads if bills. I never knew that there is what so called house insurance, fire insurance, etc not until I came here. Most of the people here in the US work just to pay-off all of this insurance i've never heard in my life before. It's stressful but life must go on. I am just a lucky gal that my husband is ones paying with everything as long as I am the one sending money back home for my siblings going to college of nursing. Everytime I talk to my mum and family in the Phils, I always told them to be very careful with the money I sent because I shed a lot of sweat on it just to earn it.

Wow, 50 cents for each can? You sure can make a lot of money selling those cans. In California, they cost 5 cents only.

My husband has a friend who is homeless. He used to have a house whom he share with other friends, but they can't afford to pay the rent anymore. So my husband helped him bring his stuff to the storage because he has a big truck. His friend moved from place to place, staying with different friends and sometimes he would spend the night at the back of my husband's truck or he camped out on the ground. We asked him to stay inside the house, but he didn't want to intrude on our privacy. All he has are his old truck, a few articles of clothing, a sleeping mattress and his cheagal or maybe a bawawa (Chihuaua Beagle) dog. One time, he was caught DUI and he couldn't drive his truck no more. He peddles his bicycle everywhere or takes the bus. Sometimes he would miss the bus and my husband would go and pick him up.

Good news. He's finally got a job and a place to stay and he got his license back. But it took him a few months to finally get his act together. He is no longer homeless.

I still see a few homeless people everywhere. All their possessions are in the shopping cart they carry with them. Most of the time, they are up all night and they sleep in the daytime.

But there is this guy who begs money near Wal-Mart. He is holding a cardboard sign which says, "Homeless". But he doesn't look like most of the homeless around here. He's wearing clean clothes, freshly showered and well-kept. He carries a back pack and he looks like a teenager. Some people beg for money for a living. They make a lot of money I guess. My question is who are the real homeless?

Hokey Smoke!

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

In our case we have medical insurance and dental insurance, but only 80% covered and 20% we're the one will pay for it. In major operation we will pay first $ 2,000 and the remaining of the balance insurance will covered 80% and our part is 20%. We can't afford to pay the remaing balance if my operations will cost more than $ 20,000 here, it is still a big amount of money for our part. So we decided to have my operation (Gall bladder stone ) next yr. in the Phils, will pay all after the operation we dont have bills to think after. Thats my fear also here if i get sick. Medical services here is very expensive. I save my salary for emergency use...
