Hi my name is cherie i was here before but haven't been for a long time. If you don't know me i'm from Alabama and my husband is in egypt. I met him in 2006 and we got married in 2007. Its now 2009 and i still haven't started anything. I have the papers for k-1 visa but haven't sent them. Why? Well i'm not really sure but i would really like to get this process started. I was planning on traveling to see him in march but that plan fell through so maybe it will be a little later. Should i wait until after the 2nd visit or do you think its ok to go ahead and start now? I welcome any help anyone can give me.

welcome!

If he is your husband, you wont be applying for the k-1. you will be applying for the cr1/ir1 or k3.

you'll find some nice people here to help along he way :star:

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Hi Cherie, I'm Tasha. I am glad that you are back. I will tell you that if you have the funds and the proof of visiting your fiancee' then go ahead and start the K1 visa. Use phone bills, chats, boarding passes, copies of your passport pages, pictures whatever you may have to show solid proof of meeting prior to filing. If you can file and do another trip during the wait time then awesome. I did see that you said that it was your husband. If you are legally married in Egypt and it is a registered marriage you will not be able to file a K1. This is for engaged couples, not married ones. The guides at the top help you a lot in explaining what to print out and what to get ready to send in. I would check those out and see which way you are going to file. Also, there are forums for each type of visa that if you have questions you can post in those. Just go to forums and choose which visa section and search and read there.

I wish you the best of luck during your journey. You will have some time to visit and plan for his arrival because this type of journey is a little bit of a long one. Stay strong and keep your faith in your relationship. God bless and always post in MENA if you need something. Everybody is very helpful there or if we can't help we will certainly try and point you in the right direction.

Welcome (back) to VJ!

Happy you stopped by. (F) As everyone stated you should apply quickly and get started on your process. You can always go visit him while you are in process and this looks great come his interview time. :D It would be a K3 if you are legally married and registered in Egypt. If not, you will file the K1.

Whatever you file...read and use the Guides (k3 or k1) on VJ! They are full of information and are SOOO HELPFUL! We followed them exactly and had no isssues!

Best of luck and feel free to PM me anytime!!

Welcome (F)

k1 is for fiance only

k3 or cr1 is for spouse

And its definitely going to take at least a year, so imo start now. If you would have started after ya'll got married, he possibly could have been here by now.

from what you so briefly stated it sounds as if you have reservations and if you do, dont go ahead until you are sure

If he is your husband I am surprised you wouldnt want to get things moving right away!

Sometimes even if you are sure and so in love with you SO it takes time to truly get to know someone.

I say, no problems in going back to visit and to reassure yourself this is step you are very willing take

it is not going to be easy but only you can decide if you want to take this journey with your SO.

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS (F)

I couldn't agree with Sandrila more that should you have any reservations, deal with those first. This process has been extremely difficult for many here. It can consume you emotionally, physically and financially. It's definitely not a decision to be made lightly.

If you have come to the decision that you and your husband want to be together, I would suggest that you get the ball going now as it can be a lengthy process.

My case was different than most here, but VJ has GREAT resources in helping with which forms to fill out and there are many members here who can be a great resource for you as well.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

It sounds to me like you are not sure about having your husband come to USA (to have waited two years after marriage to even begin the process)....

Most newly married people can't bare to be seperate for so long...

Not everyone who has their spouse come to USA live "happily ever after..." Some of us who find out things don't work out as planned (like me for instance). While my husband did not use me for a greencard, we have our problems. Life there is not the same as life here.

The question you have to ask yourself is why you have waited so long? Is there something you are not sure of...

Like I say to others who aren't sure...listen to your gut, not your heart.
