I've gained some weight since I moved to the US.. 7 months ago. I kept talking about wanting to lose weight. I finally decided to start eating healthier 2 weeks ago and have lost 6 pounds so far.

I just loveeeeeeee the yummy Southern food that we have here and Sweet Tea is sooo good!!! But I knew that what I was eating and drinking and when I ate and drink them, was not good for me. So, I've cut out all sweet tea and soda and only drink water. I try to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. I make sure that I eat a healthy breakfast and try not to eat after 7pm.

I also try to go for a 30 minute walk every day.

Good for you! My motivation for not over-eating/snacking is pasting a magazine picture of a bikini model (with her head cut off, just her body) on the fridge and pantry. LOL so I look at that and I'll like hell no, I'm not eating those chips!!

Ah Reba.. that made me laugh out loud.. you said that like it's the easiest thing in the world.. Mid-winter when veggies are gross and all you want is comfort food. You are a funny monkey!! Like that's easy!!! ;)

But you rock for doing it.. honestly!!

It's actually not that difficult at all. After you detox and get over the sugar withdrawls, you don't even want or crave them anymore. The smell of junk foods and sugary anything actually makes me nauseous. Broccoli and celery with cheese are my new comfort foods. And avocado. I never used to like avocado, but I could eat one every day now!

And my Wii Fit is alot of fun too :)

OMG Reba you are totally right. The first couple of weeks are hard because I suffered from withdrawals, but once those were done I didn't even crave anything junky related at all. I actually jumped off the wagon and have been eating junk again, sparingly though, and I need to now detox again.. which isn't as bad because I didn't completely go back to my old habits... but my one weekend of cheating has really messed me up!

I agree though, I crave avocados, grilled chicken and for sweet things, berries and yogurt. It blows my mind!! I was the ultimate junk food aholic! So if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!

I'm down 22 in California

22 pounds????? Wow good for you.....how long did that take you? And what are you doing?????? Unfortunately I know that there is only one way.....do more, and eat less (especially the yummy stuff)...but I am determined!!!!!

I started January 20th and weighed that much less on February 17th. Now I am stuck and can't seem to loose anything so I guess I got rid of the water weight. I only eat about 1200 calories a day

You probably should eat a little more and increase your cardio...if you don't take in enough calories your metabolism slows right down and you will eventually need very little calories to gain weight..(I know it sucks  )

I have been journaling all my food and exercise this week.....and when I want to eat something that I know I should not eat, I just think *If you bite it, you must write it!!!!!!* Keeps me honest. Keep going, 22 pounds is a lot. Do you have a lot to lose?

Thanks everyone else, for posting...it really helps motivate me......I ran 5 miles this am, felt so good when it was over  My goal is to fit back in my cloths by the end of May!!!!!

Your body is in starvation mode now, which is causing your weight loss to stall. You're not getting enough calories to keep you going, even for a completely sedentary person. Eat more good whole foods and you'll start to lose again. While in starvation mode, your body will also start to burn your lean muscle tissue rather than fat. This is not something you want to do!

You should be eating at least 10 times your weight in calories. So, if you're 200 pounds, you should be eating at least 2000 calories, just to get thru the day. If you're active, you should eat more calories.

If you "carb load" your body will burn the carbs first, and anything left over that doesn't get burned up will turn to fat. If you reverse the food pyramid though, and balance your diet more toward healthy fats and protiens, with healthy carbohydrates (no starches or refined grains or sugars), your body will burn the fat as fuel, and you'll burn more fat and lose more weight.

Yea, I understand the matabolism thingy. I know I need to make adjustments so I when I reach a maintenance weight I can eat the correct amount to maintain it. I go to the gym every morning for 45 minutes and will gradually increase that. I wish they opened at 4am instead of 5.

There is no way I want to get 10 times my weight in calories, I don't think there is enough food in California to sustain that :P

If you're retaining water, DRINK MORE WATER! Beans won't help.

lots and lots of water..(helps burn calories too, when you are running to the potty all night  When you get stuck, it is also important to stay off salt and processed food......I have been doing a lot of reading, and the best and least complicated food plan I have found is Body for Life (Bill Phillips)......the fitness routine is really sensible too......I don't take the supplements, except I like the protein bars to take to work for lunch sometimes. I have been at this a week now and I really feel a difference already. I have to keep things simple (I'm old and forgetful  ) so basically the program is Go to the gym before work..run as fast as I can 30 min Mon, Wed, and Fri. Do weights Tues, Thurs, and Sat....Sunday day off. I eat some carbs, and protein every meal.....I was hungry at first, cause I had to cut down my portions to a smaller amount of food...( I used to eat a LOT)..At first I was really missing eating at night, but I just have a small snack.. a piece of fruit (bye bye salt and vinegar chips, my favorite munchie)

Anyway this is working for me now.....and I just work on my motivation every day.....it is hard to be disciplined with food when you have never had to......but I am determined....and keeping a journal really helps me too.

Good luck and keep going, plateaus don't last forever, and I think everyone who is ever trying to lose weight experiences them.

Timeline

Ah Southern food...

Sweet Tea and fried chicken are now the bane of my existance :P *shakes fist at their horrible deliciousness*

I need a major detox soon though..I have IBS, so I have to make sure I keep up my water and fibers to keep my tummy and other 'stuffs' in good working order...which is not the case at the moment. Does anyone have a good cleanse recipe?

The grocery order next week after the wedding will be huge and a lot of things Bo will whine about, but he loves me and I'll make him eat it. I'd like to lose about 15 lbs too before our honeymoon (early summer) and the 2nd larger wedding at home. There is a gym here at our apt complex, which is a 2 min walk away, and we border on a lake with walking trails :) And a WiiFit is one of our wedding gifts coming next week LOL.

Happy Wife (and her tummy) = happy life for hubby :)
