I was just going through some clothes that I brought with me 3 years ago when I moved here...NONE OF THEM FIT ANYMORE :o :o .....has this happened to anyone else????? Never gained weight before in my life, so it must be something here in the midwest water

Anyone care to join in a weight loss/fitness thread? (No talk of Timbits allowed!!!!!)

I'm giving myself til the end of May to get back in those summer clothes, and would appreciate my fellow Canadians keeping me honest.....who's in???

I know how you feel...I hate that feeling!

Hubby and I are looking at joining the fitness club down the street from us, so I may be in...Plus, I need to start eating better

It's so hard when we both work 1.5hrs away and it's tempting to stop and eat out.

It's time to stop!

I thought it would be good to check in here with words of encouragement, motivation, tips, etc.....plus a certain amount of accountablilty might help. As for me I need to do more and eat less until I can get back to where i was when I moved here....I hate feeling like a slug...and I can't afford a new summer wardrobe.

I got an application called LoseIt for my iTouch and its helped me lose the 8 pounds I gained when I moved here. I am a compulsive snacker, so this thing helps me track what I've eaten and the calories. So I no longer forget about the 3 bags of Doritos I ate for breakfast or the Arizona Iced Tea before lunch.

You can also track your exercise on it.

Just cut out the junk foods, sugary anything, and breads, and even that could help. Sugar is just empty calories, and bread is just filler. And junk food is just junk. Eat whole natural foods rather than packaged and processed, and that'll help you lose weight. Packaged foods usually have sugars disguised as unpronouncable stuff.

Ah Reba.. that made me laugh out loud.. you said that like it's the easiest thing in the world.. Mid-winter when veggies are gross and all you want is comfort food. You are a funny monkey!! Like that's easy!!! ;)

But you rock for doing it.. honestly!!

I have lost 10 pounds in about 7 weeks, although the last week or so I was not trying to lose anything, just maintaining.

The thing that has really done it for me is a complete lifestyle change. I go to the gym and work out really hard for at least an hour (usually more) at minimum 5x week. I do 40 minutes of cardio at a high intensity and then I always do a mix of weights and sit ups. I also take the bodypump class once a week. I'm not going to lie, I am a lazy lazy person, so this is a huge change and making a huge difference. The first few weeks, the weight seriously just melted off of me.

Next thing that I completely changed is my diet and eating habits. I was a big snacker. I must've been eating 2000-3000 calories a day, I'd say most of them empty calories and foods that were making me sluggish too. Now I eat a very healthy breakfast with some high form of protein, salad for lunch (in different variations) with some sort of low GI carb like WW crackers or high protein WW bread and low fast cheese (laughing cow is my fave), fruit as a snack and then a Clif bar in the afternoon for more protein before the gym. Dinners are high protein, low carb (but not no carb)... I basically try to eat around 1500 calories a day. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but I've noticed as long as I load on the protein, I'm never hungry.

A huge thing that I've also done is ensure that I get 7-8 hours a sleep. I've read that anything less than that really affects weightloss and I have to agree. When I get a good 8 hours sleep after a great day of eating and a killer workout, I'm always done a pound in the morning I've noticed.

I'm not going to say its been a breeze to do this. I don't have a lot of time in the evenings to do much else, I spend a lot of money on healthy groceries and I have to be very disciplined, ensure i have clean laundry to go to the gym every night, ensure that I pack my lunch in advance and really hold back on eating treats and stuff that are just around at work.

Anyways, for me it was all about discipline and being in the right state of mind and then once I saw results, it really motivated me to continue. I actually took the long weekend off from the gym and splurged on food, so I'm really looking forward to jumping back into my rountine tonight. I was happy that I didn't gain anything after my bad eating and no working out for 5 days, but I feel like my metabolism is definitely back up and I've definitely done something right.

One thing that realy helped to jumpstart things was using sparkpeople.com to track all of my calories. I actually stopped using it once I got into a groove and could estimate my calories... but I think I'll start again this weekend to kick start my next 10 pounds. My goal is to loose 20-25 pounds, but in my mind I knew that if I could loose 10 pounds right off the bat, I could lose as much as I wanted if I put my mind to it.

Good luck to you!!

Holy smokes!!!! I am really impressed, and you have inspired me....I used to work out 6 days a week and eat really healthy, but since I moved down here, I have let it slip a bit.....so back to boot camp for me. I have no problem with the work out part, but I love to eat too much food, so have to cut down on my portions. I really want to get my horse in the show ring this year, and those white breeches are very unforgiving.....so I am determined.....Keep up your good work and thanks for inspiring me.

^^ Glad I could be of inspiration to you. I think that it's all about putting your mind to it and just being disciplined. Portion control was my biggest nightmare too, and now I juse measure things with a 1 cup scoop or put things in little baggies and it has really made a huge difference.

Good luck!!
