Different store different pricing?

While I am getting used to this new life in US, I am observing a lot of things, one of the thing is that branded items may cost different at different stores.

Back in India we had MRP (maximum retail price) for each branded item and no store, let it be big or small can ask more than that. Say an Axe deo has MRP of 120 rupees, it will be the same price all over India at any given store (other than state taxes ).

In US its different, Axe deo in Walmart might cost $4.99 in Target it might be $5.99.

I am wondering how is it in other countries? How government distributes price system?

UK it doesn't either, you have to 'shop around'. As shopping is the national pastime of many western nations, most people don't seem to mind.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Yep, they do it to promote competition.

All of the retailers charge the maximum price.

That would be considered price fixing here, no competition.

My wife loves coupons and that you can sign up for a million different store credit cards just to get the extra 10 or 20% off your purchase

Price shopping is an American tradition!

In Vietnam prices are rarely listed on any item. I literally have to send my Wife in to shop alone, because most will try to gouge a Westerner. It drives me nuts.

In US and Canada, reconstituted lemon juice (so-so for cooking, but don't try making drinks from it) is available in bottle; and  one can actually put it on a rag and sponge over, or simply pour on body.

Really have to watch those grocery stores, the large economy size may cost more per ounce than the small package. Every store has fliers with sale items, but any store will meet that price with the flier for the same item. Don't be fooled by Consumer Report special new car prices, no way in a hell can a dealer stay in business with those low markups. Ha, boys like me along when buying a new car, make a ridiculous offer, I know the markups, dealer says I am crazy, walk out the door and before I can open it to walk out, he says, wait, I will meet your offer.

BestBuy ain't best buy anymore, but occasionally have unbeatable prices. We shop at three different grocery store buying all the sale items we normally buy, tend to stock up on those days. Many stores offer a discount if you open up a credit card with them, do that right at the cash register and takes about a minute to give you an extra 10-20% off, go home, pay the bill and cancel that card, LOL. And open a new one next time.

Have to do this to save enough money to pay your taxes.

One thing to consider if you are a conscientious consumer, it does make difference where you shop. Some retail stores are unionized and some aren't. The union stores tend to payer their employees more and they have better health care coverage. I steer clear of Walmart because they have been aggressively against unions. Their prices on small ticket items compared to say, Target, isn't that much of a difference and in fact, Target has lower prices depending on their advertised sale for the week.

Why is Target any better than Wal-Mart, both pay about a buck above minimum, vast majority of the employees work a maximum of 39.5 hours per week, considered part time, no health care, no paid holidays, no vacation time, give you split shifts, sometimes only a couple of hours, can work nights, weekends, and even all holidays except Christmas. How do I know this? My kids worked at both places for a couple of extra bucks while going through school. Only a few are full time with benefits, typically about three employees including the store manager.

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of difference when it comes to pay, but from what I've read, Walmart has a reputation for encouraging their employees to get on Medicaid, or pressure them to work off the clock. I'm not sure why Target doesn't have unionized stores. I used to work at a unionized Costco - the pay and benefits were superior to any non-union retail store.
