I am not normally a paranoid person but the current economic situation really scares me.

As with the great depression our current economic situation could cave in over night and with the Immigration support laws as they are now how many of us would not qualify for many years?

Even though the stimulous bill was passed the stock market is still taking a dive. California is broke ( 8th largest economy in the world) Kansas is broke. The state of Washington where I live is canceling or cutting way back projects like crazy. How many other states are broke but not saying. People are still being laid off left and right.

I lost my job last October and had to start my own business becasue I had no other alternative for my situation. I am doing ok enough to get my wife here, but what about tomorow or next week or month?

It is my beleife that if this continues to go on like it is most of us with in a few months will never beable to be with our loved ones or it will be a very long time. The more time USCIS drags their feet the more of us will have to drop out of the process.

Education is not going to help you if this continues. I just read on VJ about some one that has 2 BA degrees and still cant make it. The jobs wont be there and the money wont be there.

I have an education and there werent any jobs in my town and moving rightnow isnt an option. There are going to be alot of really hurting people

I would agree with the OP. in an economy like this one, even having graduate degrees is no guarantee that you can land a job ipso facto, in your field and with good pay. Professional degrees are a different animal of course.

Get a job in health care brings up another subject I forgot to mention.

We are now on line for nationalized health care that is only going to hurt health care and it wont pay ####### for money. I am in the dental health care and its really hurting becasue no one can get finanacing for the care they need and the insurance doesnt pay for very much. No one wants to part with their money in fear that they will need it for food or pay bills

That is kind of my point though. How long before we would get to see our loved ones again? nursing school isnt some thing that happens over night and then there is no guarrantee that one could find a job

I truely understand your fears. I have been in the mortgage business for 18 years and for me the recession started about 2 years ago. I have a business degree from a major university and have been on numerous interviews in different career fields and always seem to get "You are over qualified or have no direct experience in this field. I have even been willing to relocate anywhere in the country to find a job but to no avail. All I have done since I graduated is mortgage and real estate sales, try finding a job on Monster,com that wants anyone with mortgage experience. I have been forced to work numerous part time jobs just to put food on the table but I am keeping a positive attitude and know that this economy will change for the better. I just hope that it happens sooner than later, keep a positive outlook and keep believing.

Yes, these are scary times and will likely get worse before it gets better. Just remember, however, that even during the worst of the Great Depression of the 1930's the unemployment rate was 25%. Yeah, that's high but it also means that 75% of people were employed. Do your best everyday and try to be in that top 75% of employable individuals.
