We are still waiting for my police certificate to get to the USA and so are therefore stuck in limbo until that happens.

I had been told that I couldn't go to visit the US while my visa is processing but I have seen other people have visited during the process.

I have never had a visitor visa and have always gone to the USA on the visa waiver program. My husband is busy working and I do have time to go and visit him if it would be at all possible.

Any ideas/ suggestions?

Visiting should not be a problem; you may get a few more questions at passport control, but other than that, you should be fine (in fact, some people say it as easier for them once they were in the system, as it shows they mean to immigrate legally). I'd bring some stuff to proof that you will return home to be on the safe side (bills/ lease for a home, letter from employer when you are expected back etc).

You can try, but from what I have heard, generally visiting the US while your Visa is in process is not a good idea. If you apply for a Visa chances are you will get denied, and if you arrive in the US, you run the risk of getting turned back by immigration since you are applying for your greencard.

Yes, you should call them and see what they say. But there is no way to predict what the immigration officer will do at the point of entry in the US. You will have to prove that you are going to return to the UK, and not stay in the US (i.e you are just visiting while your case is in process).

She doesn't need to apply for any visa regarding her visit, she is from England and they are one of the VVP countries. You can visit but you do risk the chance at POE, so be prepared for that.

It is true that you are on Visa waiver so you should be allowed in easily but now the visa waiver rules have changed a bit. You need to get pre approved for visa waiver by logging into a website. If it is approved, your chances of getting turned around are slim.
