Happy Hump Day MENA

Ok so I need some advice. This isn't MENA related. Here's the poop...

I'm adopted. I met my birth mother and her family about 10 yrs ago. I know my birth father's name but wasn't completely sure of the spelling of his last name. It's a common last name but since his family is Belgian, it's possible that it's spelled differently than how most ppl spell it (Pieters vs. Peters). So for the past 10 yrs I haven't thought too much about finding my father other than occasionally looking his name up in the phone book. There are like 4 men with the same name in our local phone book. I was told which city he lived in but that was years ago. Anways I was talking with the mister the other night and he encouraged me to try looking for him again. So yesterday I looked up his name on 411.com. Since you can see an age on that site I figured it would help narrow things down. So I found a listing with his name (including correct middle initial), his age, last known city and the best part...his name had an alternate spelling of Pieters.

Ok so here are my questions:

Would you send a letter?

Would you call?

Would you do nothing?

TIA for any advice.

have you seen the movie "accross the universe" where Jude comes to America to let his biological dad know that he exists?

I think it was a great way to handle the situation. If u don't want to go to his house, or if ur unable to do so....call him up and say "hey this is "me", my mom is "mom", and I believe you may be my father." "I'm not asking for anything but want you to just know that I exist"..... jmho

Thank you, Tasha and Annie, for the great advice. I think I will write a letter that way the ball is in his court plus it can be ignored if this man I located isn't my father. I feel it would be too awkward to call. Plus what if his wife or kids answer and they don't know about me? Awkward!

How will you feel if you don't hear anything though? You won't know if it is because the man is not your father, or if it's because he doesn't wish to speak with you. If you're ok with not knowing for sure, then I think a letter would be fine. Of course, even if you do call, he could always lie and say it's not him. That would be unfortunate.

My dad located his biological father about 30 years after he had left him and his mom (he was just a toddler). It turns out that he had died when my dad was only 12 (struck by lightning of all things), but he now has a relationship with his half-siblings. We even took a road trip down to meet the family we never knew! They really embraced him - they knew he existed, but didn't know how to go about finding him.

He contacted them by phone.

However you decide to initiate contact, I hope it all turns out the way you hope. (F)

Thanks, Jenn. (F)

I'm not sure how I would feel if a letter went ignored. I want to say that I'd be ok with it but I know I'd always have those unanswered questions in my mind...was it him? did he want to talk to me? My husband offered to make a call for me to "break the ice" so to speak but I declined. I'm a grown up, I should be able to call him on my own.

Charles - sorry for kitty

Sara - Congrats on your son getting the award...that's awesome!

Nawal - Any news on your mom yet?

Got to tell you guys something funny our son did this morning. My aunt took him to the barber shop to get his hair cut because tomorrow is picture day at his preschool. He is almost 3 by the way. My aunt is showing him the barber pole and says, "When you see this, that means barber shop." He says...."No, that means lollipop!"

Happy Hump day MENA (F)

Wow...I had a farm...I killed everything. :( FB is blocked at work and I think I just didn't pay attention at night when I got home...ADD :P Stumble, VJ or something else always came up.

Zain is on a kick now too Jess...he loves getting up two times a night just to 'check' if I am listening and around. GRRR. I go in, he sees me, cuddles and goes back to sleep. But its kicking my butt at work...I'm up at 2am and typically 5am w/ him then he's bright eyed and ready to play at 8am while I'm getting ready for work! I hope this little habit ends soon...I'm thinking to not pay attention to him when he's whining but then it turns into a cry and he wakes up Nour! You can't win! :P

Have a good day everyone. (F)

OMG Annie you totally brought me back to the days when Megan was colicky and I'd have to hold her all through the night so she wouldn't wake Emily up! Even when she grew out of the colick she still didn't sleep through the night for a while since she was little (under 5lbs ) when she was born. I'd wake up to feed her (Emily HAD been sleeping through the night since she was a year older) and Emily would wake up because Megan's cry pierced right through your spinal cord so I'd give up and heat them both up a bottle and rock them one on one side the other on the other. (all this while hubby was slutting around with their now stepmom. lol) Good times!:dance::dance:

I'm slightly more coherent than yesterday but I swear that stuff they give you for the gastroscopy is still in my system! All went well and they found nothing. They didn't think they'd find anything but my surgeon wanted to do it so that he could send it off to the neurologist for next week's appt. He thinks I throw up everyday due to some neurological problem that is related to my not walking straight, slurring my words (I have YET to be able to pronounce the word "neurological"), not remembering things, etc.

Hey does anyone know if you have a valid medical memory problem if insurance pays for a GPS system? I don't mean like putting a chip in my head or anything that extreme but lately I've been getting lost just around my town which is all of 1.5 miles in diameter. Usama and I went to Maine the other day to shop at the outlets and I took a wrong turn and it took 1/2 hour to get back on track. He wants to get me the gps but I said to hold off until after the neuro dude since maybe he can hook me up for free. :)

I never got to say hi, moody so hi! Welcome back. I read about finding your bio-dad and I wish you well in that. I hope that everything is going ok with you and Muhammed.

Usama starts school next week and I swear I'm more nervous than him! He's just going to get a certified nurses assistant certificate thingy but once he starts work at the nursing home he's looking at he is going to enroll in school to become an LPN and after that hopefully he'll get into school to become an RN. He has "the gift". What I mean by that is that I and many others I talk to could NEVER do that type of work (that a CNA does in a nursing home) but when he talks about it you see it in his eyes how badly he feels for those people. He took care of his dad who had a bad kidney illness and bathed him, even changed his iv's, etc. so he's used to what it's going to be like. Anyways I'm online looking for lunch boxes for him. :star: I want to suprise him with it but I don't want it to be too too corny. :P
