Hi guys,

We have finally got my husband's car and we are currently shopping for car insurance. Now, since he just recently got his driver license, I know the rates will be rather high.

I just wanted to know what insurance company you guys have and what are your current rates per month. It would be great if I could get responses from any VJers in the Southern California region, but any response will help.

The cheapest we have found has been Mercury Insurance.

it's best to shop around

Rather than going through the traditional insurance companies, you can go through a broker that you know and they can give you some pretty decent deal. ealier i new knew there were other insurance companies such as

Unitrin, worker something insurance.

Another important factor, if your spouse had a drivers license from his country, he can submit that as evidence so they don't charge him as New driver.

If you have a home, at time you can ge lower rate when it's combine with the auto like a package deal, homeowners insurance/Auto combine

Gone but not Forgotten!

How about a foreign born 16 year old daughter with a factory fresh driver's license. After lots of searching ended up with AAA. Course rates vary considerably where you live and had to keep my daughter on the high honor roll for a further discount, AAA also had the best rates for my home insurance. Not sure if it's appropriate to list my rates, but a hell of a lot cheaper than GEICO and I hate their constant commercials. I see they are in CA.

State Farm told us that it did not matter how long my wife has been driving the rate is determined by age. She is 31 and married so she is in a low rate catagory. Now she just needs to stop being scared and learn to drive.

Was thinking more about my daughter, but when my wife came here, something about having to have an SS card first before getting a driver's license, but she had an international driver's license, checked with the DMV, it was good, called my insurance company, they honored it and tacked her unto my policy practically for free.

That way she could drive so she no longer had to pedal her butt all over town. Back then it took about eight months for her to get an EAD and a restricted SS card, so she could then apply for a state license, that would have been a lot of pedaling.

Called my insuance co and added the wife, no hasels no ups and no extras.

She is 37 no problem, driving here is childsplay after Brazil.

It has something to do that they figure married guys are far more responsible careful drivers then when we were wild and single. Even though I almost got a speeding ticket when first having my wife for a passenger. She just couldn't understand why with such beautiful roads we have, why our speed limits are so low. Told her, I can't understand that either, but it's the law. Have to be nuts to drive in Venezuela, rotten roads with no speed limits, unmarked intersections, the fastest one takes the right of way, very few traffic signs, and stalled vehicles everywhere.
