Petitioning Parents - Process Complete

Hi

I tried looking for the answer to my question, but could not find anything that would shed some light...

So, I have petitioned my parents, have done all the process, and today, I finally sent the last bits of paperwork they required at NVC.

I understand that NVC will now send the paperwork to Caracas and I am assuming they will be called for an interview???

Does someone have any experience on this? Do you know what happens at the interview? What can they possibly ask them?

My mom was asking me these questions, and I, as you can see, had no answers for her!

Your help is much appreciated!!

Relax!!!! Take a deep breath and mellow out :)

I went with my Mum to the Embassy in London and the people there were really nice. Just make sure all your papers are in the correct order and that you have copies of everything. They don't ask you a great deal. Mum first went and saw a man who was from the UK. He took her papers away and checked them out. I think he may have asked her why she wanted to go to the USA. Then she had to put up her hand and swear that everything was correct.

A few minutes later he came back and said that she should sit down again and wait to be called. About 10 minutes later she was called again and went back again to a different window. The lady there was an American. She checked through the paperwork again and said Congratulations and welcome to America. It was all pretty painless. Remember, you have done all the hard work already and if everything is in order you will not have any problems.

I did make sure I took copies of my husband and my latest tax forms and anything else I thought might be needed. But nothing else was asked for.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your answer!!!

So, do they have to take any more paperwork to the Consulate? I mean, apart from the Medical and the Letter for the Interview?

I am asking, because they have asked me to send a whole lot of things, and I thought they did not require anything else... I have sent the Affidavit, etc. And in this last package I sent their birth certificates, marriage certificate, DS230 (not signed) and Background Checks... I thought they would not need these paperwork again?

*sigh* sorry for so many questions!!

Thanks again!

Anyta,

The NVC will now make an appointment with the embassy before they send their cases down there. If they complete or completed their cases before the the first two weeks of the month, they will get an interview for the following month. But if they complete them after the first two weeks, you have to wait until the first two week of the following month for them to make the appointment with the embassy.

Since the NVC took care of all the paperwork, you as the petitioner and your parents will get packet 4 in the mail which will be their interview letters and lab and medical instructions. No more visa fees to pay.

They won't ask them anything they can't answer, they are your parents and know you inside out! My parents were told by their embassy that parents are a bit easier because you don't need as much proof that your relationship is real like spouse and fiances, a birth certficate is a birth certifcate. I have seen some suggestions that parents take a couple of pics with you and them together but I don't think thats a necessity but it certainly won't hurt either.

The NVC will send all the documents over and most of the prescreening is done but copies of what you sent them are a good idea . I have asked my parents to take evidence of their financial situation as well because they are elderly and even though my income was approved at the NVC, I want the consular officer to see the overall finacial picture because healthcare is such an issue here for the elderly, depends on your parents's age , if they are under 65 then you still might be able to get health insurance for her until she gets US citizenship. The consular officer has a right to look beyond the minimum poverty level reached and reveiw the bigger picture based on age and overall health. Reaching the required financial level is not a guarantee of approval. My Mum is 67 and my Dad is 74 years old.
