Mel and I are trying to figure out our travel arrangements for after the interview. I was thinking she should wait 2 weeks after the interview to be safe. What is the most appropriate time to book a flight after the interview? How long does it usually take on average to receive the visa after the interview?

2 weeks should be plenty... I got mine about 3 days after... I guess it's always best though to book the flight with the option of changing it, just in case. I know some airlines charge an arm and a leg just to change the flight date/time.

Yep - don't count your chickens before they hatch - especially when Canada Post and the consulate are involved! It will fly by and you'll find you run out of time and can't get everything done anyway.

You guys are right...I am waiting for a week now ( well, blame it on the long weekend too, it was the only long weekend I didn't like..) and still waiting...i couldn't book my flight yet but I am trying to get myself occupied through packing my stuff..

Murphys law always liek to make an appearance! Buy ur ticket for 2 weeks after interview, the passport will arrive 2 days after ur interview!! make the plane ticket for a few days after interview, passport shows up 2 weeks later,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Chris' employer made our plane reservations, but I waited 3 weeks after the interview to move. I got my visa in 5 days. Montreal to Edmonton. It was pretty darn fast.

Personally, if I was going to make the reservations now, I'd spend the extra $100 to get insurance to change the tickets in case the visa doesn't arrive. That way, you can just amend your plans if its not there in time. Otherwise you could just wait to book once it arrives in the mail.

I got my ticket for two weeks after my interview, and received my Visa in 3 business days (would have been two days, but there was a snowstorm Monday ha), but I think 2 weeks is a good time to wait as well :)

6/22/09 EAD card arrived in the mail (that was fast eh?)
7/09/09 - received notice of GC appointment date
8/07/09 - Green Card interview at Raleigh Field office at 8:45am - Given RFE for I-693 Vaccination suppliment
9/08/09 - returned RFE to field office. Approved for Green Card
9/09/09 - Received email that Card production had been ordered.
9/17/09 - Green Card in the mail - No more USCIS until June, 2011 :D
