Okay, this entertained me!

More airlines should do this!

That was great - I want to take his flight!

That was cute. I've had several experiences with entertaining flight attendants on Southwest. It's a nice way to pass time... unless you're trying to sleep.

So while reading Stella pt 1, I take notes on the words/phrases that are unfamiliar and ask Steven about them. I also try to use them sometimes.

I wonder if I'm saying "puttus" wrong, cause he laughs every time I say it. Hmm.

Ha I used to do this too with Rocky. At first he thought it was amusing but then after a while he thought I was asking him questions because I was talking to someone else in text. He just came out the blue like Dada are you texting anodda Jamaican? I was like no he was like umm why all de questions. I told him I'm reading a story with patios in it and I'm trying to ovastand it. He wasn’t buying it so he told me well when you come bring the story wid you and I'll go over it wid you. Well of course due to me running late I forgot the story and the first thing he asked me was where is the story. Ughh I forget it? He truly didn’t believe me. So when I went back home I would just randomly throw a word to him here and there... Like I said he rarely speaks patwa to me and I hate it cause I love to hear him chat it. I don’t care if I don’t know what your saying chat it anyway it just sounds so sexy to me. Well as long as I'm not trying to have a conversation with you. So I have acquired more JA friends and I just ask them now. But I must say I think I'm getting better. I may not know every word they are saying but being that I know some I can kind go figure out what they are saying by piecing it together. I would so love to learn the language. Oh Rock loves for me to say the Bumba and Blood clouts. He finds this hilarious.

Taken from Embassy of Jamaica.org (washington, dc): Residency through Registration

Non-Jamaicans may be granted Jamaican Resident Status on application by virtue of marriage to Jamaican nationals. Hence, foreign spouses are required to register with the Ministry of National Security upon arrival in Jamaica, after which they will be allowed to reside permanently on the island.

This registration is also necessary so that the foreign spouse can be granted the Certificate of Exemption from Work Permit Requirements. In this connection, the couple is required to submit the following:

...

Foreign spouses may not only register for permanent residence, but may do so for obtaining Jamaican citizenship/nationality. In this connection, it should be noted that Jamaica recognises dual citizenship/nationality and thus foreign spouses are allowed to retain their respective citizenship/nationality after acquiring that of Jamaica, if they so desire. A person may be granted naturalization after a minimum period of five (5) years residency in Jamaica on application following his/her residency through either visa or work permit application.A Jamaican passport or travel document may be issued on application to a non-Jamaican only after the person has obtained a Certificate of Registration or Naturalization from the appropriate authorities in Jamaica....

So can you get a Jamaican passport once you've received permanent residence status, or do you have to wait for naturalization? I wonder if I can avoid the hassle at immigration if I get a JA passport after getting married.

You can go through the nationals line with your US passport once you marry.

Nat - I know what you mean. The jamaican line be shorter. I guess it's the same way coming back to the US...the US line is shorter sometimes.

I wonder what it would be like if I traveled with my husband back. Do you go together in Jamaican citizen line? Or separate?

Wait - when is mother's day?

Citizen line.

Can anyone explain to me why I felt sick all day, went to the doctor, got medication, and cannot stop coughing since I got home? I wasn't coughing before I went to the dr!

I called DJ and had a coughing fit when he picked up - I finally gave up and hung up - he called back in a panic, and all I could wheeze out was "can't breathe, call you back" LOL - he was a little panicked by the time I called back

He did say drink some Rum? or some Ginger tea?

GO STATE!!!!!!!

michiganstate.jpg

Sorry, Dillon.

Sorry but I forgot who asked the questions but here are some of the answers....

Yes Married on March 13th so I can get residency by marriage...thus I won't have to apply for an expensive azz work permit (just got increased to $1500.00US)

The free zone is an area in Mobay (and I beleive in Kingston) where US companies are able to have call centers/offices/factories where they don't have to go through the paperwork of being in a foreign country...that area was shown in great detail in the movie "life and debt" I am trying to line up the work prior to going but if I don't have anything YES I must have enough to live on....with his pay as well cause he HAS TO WORK!

Problem about working for a hotel is that the tourism industry had declined so much lately that many people are out of work...there is talk that Round Hill is going to close 3 months this summer....

Hoping not to have to get a co-sponser. Still checking this out but having a letter guarantee' my employment upon return...along with my assests...I hope we will be ok.....(crossing fingers)

Does anyone know about one way tickets and problems with immigration? I was trying to forgo having to buy open ended round trip tickets and just get one way now and then come august get one way back...I will have both by the time I leave but didn't know if immigration will cause a scene???

Thanks again for all the well wishes..... I need all the positive thoughts I can get!

So jamerican, this is a not a permanent move, you are only re-locating for next 4-6 months. Why do you think you won't need a work permit. My friend whose husband is working in Jamaica needed a work permit. You don't automatically get residency thru marriage. I though you had to apply and the reason why it would be granted is that you are married to a jamaican citizen.

You can just purchase a one-way ticket, they won't require you to have a round trip.

The move is for 6months-a year at the most. I am married to a Jamaican citizen thus can get residency by marriage...Staying at minimum of 6 months so we can apply for him to come here via the dcf route.

Marlita looked into that DCF and couldn't find a way to actually do it. Thought she said they stopped that.

Ha ha.....matters little to a baseball fan. But, congrats to you, Mrs. P!
